Question about RCA OPAL M4001 MP3 Player
When I turn on my player, after I charged it, it says: "Error Boot! Please format unit” I’ve tired resetting it, yet it seems that did nothing. I charged it for the recommended 3 hours, so I don't think the problem could be related to over charging. When it's plugged into my computer, it'll charge, but it won’t show on my computer. My computer recognizes something’s plugged in, but it doesn’t know what it is.
I'm not sure what else to do...
I went to the rca site and downloaded the firmware update. It told me how to reset the unit. You have to let it crash, then start it from the Start menu. Then you plug in your player while holding down the play button while it loads. It managed to get it running but I still can't add music.

Don't trust Solution#1. The original CD has no USB driver program so it doesn't help at all. There is a firmware upgrade program on RCA website for M4008. However, when you have a 'boot error' on your unit, the USB connection is not recognzied by Windows and the firware upgrade program does not work either. So there is nothing you can do as a customer. The RCA customer service told me to send it back to
Audiobox Return Center
11721B Alaneda Ave.
Socorro, TX 79927
with all the accessories and a copy of the receipt and promise to swap/fix for me. I will try and don't know the outcome yet.

This might be able to help if you still have the cd thing that came with it, but I think that it's supposed to help your computer recognize it.

Even tho it said boot error and usb says there is nothing there.
Try this go to you add hardware wizard.
have it look for it it will not find it once done.
Then have it look for MTP device.
After that should find it.
Then do the firmware update.
