Question about Tomtom ONE GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Big X on tomtom screen..and not functioning.

When doing a backup and synchronization, my tomtom, got screwed up. Now when I power it up, i just get the stupid tomtom sound, and a big X on the screen. I Tried to download latest update, and get a failure. Right now, it is just a door stop...what a waste. I would have left it alone, but my laptop kept getting a message to upgrade software, which i thought was a new release of the embedded tomtom software, and turned out to be a new release of tomtom home.

My TomTom one xl is showing a big red X on the opening screen . and cant do and thing else.

If you have a big red circle with a white X in it, indicates that you have a serious problem with your unit:
1) Try a 'hard reset': while the power is on, stick a small (tooth/match) stick through the hole under your unit base and opposite to were the USB connector go, for a few seconds, remove the pressure on the stick will cause a complete system reboot if possible.

2) If above does not work, connect to the computer, use Windows Explorer -> Properties -> Tools > Error-checking to scan and repair any problem with your Tomtom drive & check if you still have a problem.

3) If above does not work, and this is usually the solution for 'big X error', use TomTom Home to restore from a previous backup followed by a device update while connected online.

Hope it helps: let me know how you go and good luck!

If you have a big red circle with a white X in it, it usually means that your TomTom One 'disk' is corrupted: first try a 'hard reset' , while the power is on, stick a small (tooth) stick through the hole under your unit base and opposite to were the USB connector go, for a few seconds, remove the pressur on the stick will cause a complete system reboot if possible.

Next, since you can connect to the computer, use Windows Explorer -> Properties -> Tools > Error-checking to scan and repair any problem with your Tomtom drive & check if you still have a problem.

If there is an error or you cannot reboot, hopefully you have a backup made either by copying the whole unit disk content or more traditionally via TomTom Home, I would suggest a complete restore your device content follow by a TomTom Home device update.

Hope it helps: let me know how you go.

This happens because files on your card are corrupted after an unsuccessful download.
If you have a card backup at hand, put the card into a computer, format it , and restore backup.
After that the TOMTOM will restart working normally.

Tomtom ONE 3RD EDITION

I have seen this before on my TomTom as well.
Do you have a backup save? The was I fixed this was to plug a 1Gig SD card into a card reader (not the TomTom) and copy the backup file directly to the card and then plug in into the TomTom while turned off and then powered it on.

if you do have a backup, you should be able to find it under you My Documents folder under the TomTom folder.
