Fan stopped working, replaced, still not working,... (by 3 users)

posted by zmom on Dec 27, 2007

I have a Compaq Presario 2200 and the fan stopped working. It had always overheated before that (guess that's an ongoing issue with these). We replaced the heatsink and fan and the fan does still not start although it can turn easily if you manually turn it. I guess it's possible we got a bad replacement fan but I doubt it. What else could be causing the problem in the fan? Are there other parts we should replace?

Yes we did recheck all the connections, and we don't have the ability to test the fan. Assuming the fan and heatsink are ok (at least until we can get them tested), and that it is installed correctly, and all connections are being made appropriately, what else could it be? Is my motherboard just failing?

Hi, well, we flashed the BIOS and the fan started working while that was going on, and hasn't turned on since. The next step we're going to try is to add some thermal paste. I will let you know if we resolve this so that this will be up for others to find a solution. Let me know if there are any other suggestions, please.
I have the same problem.

it could be on the mobo end. hook up the cooling fan to a molex connector.
