Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

1 Answer

Storage device not found

My son's xbox 360 will not allow him to start a new "career" & is giving an error message stating "storage device not found" & we never had a "storage device" in the past.
He can still watch DVD movies and the games come on.. seems like it is trying to have him log on to "Xbox Live" and not the game itself.

Re: storage device not found

Saving a game requires you to have a Hard drive or memory card did you purchase the premium edition xbox 360? you can look on the outside of the xbox 360 box it will give the specs and what came with the system. If the hard drive is not on the list then you will need to buy one the xbox doesn't come with any internal memory like the systems in the past have. you will need to purchase a HD or a memory card. If you have the premium edition let me know ill instruct on how to set it up.

Perhaps only one of the two sticks does not work anymore, Or is not inserted correct. The Box must be missing a storage device. It is not saying I miss a hard drive.

Error 40a3-0000-3080-0502-8007-045d

I got this from the Xbox support site for your error code.

Error Code xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-8007-045D
A storage device (such as a memory unit or hard drive) was not found during the software update. Follow these steps:
  1. Turn off your console.
  2. Remove all console storage devices, including any USB flash drives, external hard drives or the internal hard drive on the Xbox 360 E console or Xbox 360 S console. Learn how to remove the hard drive.
  3. Add your primary storage device, for example, the hard drive.
  4. Turn on the console
  5. Try updating the console again.
Here's the website if you wish to peruse it further.

Post back how it works out!

Error: reinsert memory unit

I notice no one properly read the question.
The user asking the question specifies that it still plays games.
It's not playing DVD therefore it's not a laser issue. I post this because I have the same problem - the same error (which states please reinsert memory device) comes up when attempting to PLAY DVD. however the Xbox will STILL PLAY GAMES.
the Xbox has never been connected to the Internet and still currently has no connection. Anyone have an actual solution?

Can not format xbox 360 console

Well, just to make sure you understand, after you format your Xbox 360 Hard Drive, all your data that was on the hard drive will be lost and cannot be recovered (like Hexic HD, Gamerpics, etc...) make sure that you really would want to do this before you continue, okay?

In formatting your Xbox 360 Hard Drive, follow these steps:
1. Turn on your Xbox 360 console without any disc in the disc tray.
2. In the System section of the Xbox 360 Dashboard, select Memory to view the Storage Devices area.
3. In the Storage Devices area, select Hard Drive then press the Y button on your Xbox 360 controller or on the remote control.
4. In the Device Options area, select Format. You receive the message:
This will delete all content on this device. Do you want to continue?
5. To format your Xbox 360 Hard Drive, select Yes.

If you encounter any problem with this, I would strongly suggest that you contact phone support of xbox for the Hardware department at the following phone numbers:

Toll free: (800) 4MY-XBOX
Direct dial: (425) 635-7180
Hearing impaired (TDD device): (866) 740-9269 or (425) 635-7102

Hours of operation
Phone assistance is available seven days a week.
9:00 A.M. to 1:00 A.M. Eastern Time
6:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M. Pacific Time

Hope this helps! :)

Hardware failure

Make sure your A/V (or component) cables and power cable are connected properly. Take your hard drive off and turn the system on, then if it's fine turn it off, replace the HDD, and turn it on again.

if that dont work try this

--==Console Reset Codes==--
Clear All Installed Game Updates and Console Cache
  1. Go to the "system" blade
  2. Select "memory"
  3. Press Y on the HD symbol
  4. Press X,X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X
  5. A message will appear saying: "Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?"
  6. Select Yes
Clear Any Failed system updates that cause the console to error.
  1. With the console off, press and hold the sync up button (the small white one)
  2. While holding the sync button press the power button to turn on the console
  3. Continue to hold the sync button until the Console has booted up completely.
  4. During the boot process the console should clear any failed updates, allowing you to use it normally.
