Disk won't spin

A while ago, it was working. Then suddenly it won't. The disk doesn't spin, but it doesn't say anything about error reading disc. It goes directly to the browser screen.

Re: disk won't spin

My sons playstation 2 went to browser and after reading the only one solution of putting a cup on top of it, we did try that but we found that the problem was the silver piece had moved, so after we moved the silver piece toward the middle toward where the disk goes, then closed it, and put a little pressure on top and you could feel it turning , then we opened it back up, the silver part had moved back again, but the playstation started back working then without any pressure.. so my suggestion is move the silver part close to where the disk goes.and it will move itself back....It sure worked for us..I was beginning to think money down the drain for this playstation 2....thank God it worked so maybe it will work for you...

Re: disk won't spin

There's a post built into the Lid . It's the disc brake. When you put the lid down , it moves the brake out of the way allowing the disc to spin. If the post is broken , the brake stays on. No spin.
Either buy a new lid or find something to replace the post and glue it where the other one was.

Post dimensions are bout 0.080" by 0.250"

Xbox360 disc tray motor won't stop spinning

Hi Matt,

Here is the process for troubleshooting this specific issue:

  • First remove your disc from the tray. I assume you have already done this.
  • Ensure your faceplate (the front of your system) is on correctly. Sometimes these can become loose and off kilter. Press the two edges firmly with your hands and "push" it into place.
  • Push the eject button. Although it hasn't worked in the past, adjusting the faceplate may correct the issue.
  • If that doesn't work, move the disc tray drive gently from left to right when it is open. Again, be gentle-- what we're trying to do here is slightly adjust the disc tray in case it isn't entering your system properly.

Still not working? Time to send it to Microsoft for repair. You can find all of that information on their official support site. Click here for more details.

Hope that helps!

Power works; fan spins;light is on; promo screen works; disc won't read; disk won't spin

The most likely situation you have here is that the cd drive lens isn't reading, just because with a gamecube, it relies on that lens to detect if there is a disc inserted. Your best bet is to try and clean the lens with a que tip and some rubbing alcohol. Be gentle, only very gentle wipes back and forth in a circular motion, then dry it the same way. If that doesn't work, I can give you some tips on how to rip the thing apart and see if it is a connection inside somewhere

My Xbox 360 will not read any disk. this happenend in the middle of a game. no lights or error codes come up just won't read anything.

I would see if you can get a hold of one of those laser cleaning discs with a brush on the discs as the disc reading laser could be dirty. Other wise it could possibly be damaged (if the console fell over while the disc was spinning) if this is the case there is nothing that can be done other than calling Microsoft and seeing if they can warranty the unit.

Crunching sound after disc inserted and it starts spinning. then screen reads "error occurred, eject disc..."

there mite be something jammed inside the disk drive take a look inside to see if theres anything inside if so just pull it out with something long and thin that dosnt conduct electricity.

Every time I put a game in it will play for a good while and then all of sudden it will say, problems reading disc check owners manual, or something like that.

This is not nessesarily a solve issue, however it worked with mine, I had the same issues when playing games. I would be in the middle of gameplay, and the the error screen would pop up and say that the disc coudnt be read, All I did to fix the issue was open the unit, blow the dust off the disc drive motor and attatched ****, then I used some 3 in one oil on all the motors inside the system. So far it hasnt messed up (FINGERS CROSSED) I hope this helps.....I noticed with my gamecube that it would quit spinning the game, and after I made it past the gameplay loaded in memory it would error out because it needed to spin the disc and load more programing into memory.....if your disc dont spin you are guarenteed a disc read error

Wont read any disc

The problem is quite common.

When your console does not read any disk, that is usually because of a problem with the optical laser lens that is dirty, faulty or opaque, and will start operating on certain disks better than others.

In that case you will hear disk spinning, whirring and clicking, but the TOC (table of content track at start of CD/DVD will not be read, therefore the error.

Whe this problem is starting you may be able to read only few CD, DVD. After more prolonged usage , often the PS start losing the rest of functions, and ends up not reading anything at all.

If instead there is no noise, and disk does not spin at all , then there is a faulty motor, or the motor micro-switch is bad. This situation is far less common than the lens problem.

Try first using a CD/DVD cleaner disk to clean the lens. If that does not work you will need to disassemble the PS, and clean lens directly with q tips and isopropyl alcohol, or to replace the CD/DVD lens, or the whole drive unit.

before doing tis, contact Sony to check if the unit can be replaced or repaired by Sony, you find the number on the Console documentation.

Take a lens cleaner disk, and then run it three times. The ps2 will work or if it doesn't. Its time to upgrade to slimline.
