Microstar MD2852 Overheating Problems

Hi,
I have a microstar md2852 laptop which gets fiery hot very quickly. It has an upgraded 160gb harddrive + a new 1 gig memory card equalling 1.25gb total memory. I am not sure what the video memory is. My biggest problem is that within about 10 minutes tops it just freezes up. It did the same thing before the upgrade but took longer to freeze. If you could let me know what the possible causes could be I would be very grateful.
Thank you

It was opened up about 2 weeks ago to install the new components & was cleaned then. I will download speedfan 2night & check the temps. Thanks 4 the help.

Already had the memory tested and its fine. The problem started before the upgrades anyway. I found out the cpu used in this machine is a pc cpu not a laptop cpu & it loads up with virtually no use at all. I used a cpu meter Vista gadget & just staring at the screen it jumps up to 100% usage without even touching a key. It usually sits around 34% though.

Have you tried blowing into the exhaust vents to clear any dust out? What kind of temps is the cpu reaching? Use speedfan to find out (free progy)

Try downloading memtest and burn it as an image and boot from it to test the new ram as it may be faulty. Did the problems start after the recent upgrades?

How do you upgrade the memory in a medion md2852 no access panels on the back have removed every screw in the laptop stll no sign of gaining access

Some laptops have the memory modules installed beneath the keyboard, so that in order to get access to the memory modules/slots, you have to first remove the keyboard.

I am going to upgrade ram to 1 gb. can i use ddr2 1 gb ram to upgrade .motherboard is microstar model ms-6526 ver: 2 . present ram is ddr1 400 MHz, 512 MB

If your computer has two RAM slots on the motherboard, i would recommend trying it. The computer will run on the 512MB stick alone and just not recognise the other stick. And if it works it works.

I have searced for support documentation and came up with none for the original MS-6526

I run my original version MS-6526 on a 512MB PC2300 (DDR1) and a 512MB PC3200 (DDR1) and it runs just fine for games and videos.

Personally I would recommend trying the DDR2 first and if that fails, return the card and get a DDR1 card. They are expensive, but at least they work.

Where do i put he memory

From the manufacturer's web-site:

http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&prod_no=557

look at the "green" slots in the picture of the motherboard.
That's where the RAM goes -- note that the RAM has a "notch" that is *NOT* in the "centre" of the stick; so, the RAM only fits *ONE* way into the slot.

On that web-page, it says:

• Supports six memory banks using three 184-pin DDR SDRAMs.
• Supports up to 3GB memory size.
• Supports DDR400/DDR333/DDR266/DDR200 SDRAM
Note: PC3200 (DDR400) maximum 4 banks only.

So, if you buy DDR400 RAM, the maximum is 2GB (2 sticks @ 1GB/stick); if you buy DDR33 RAM, the maximum is 3GB (3 sticks @ 1GB/stick).
