HELP! I cannot find my CD with my Gateway 25 character authenticity number. Where else, if any place, can I find it?? I can't access Microsoft Word without it.

When you install your 2007 Microsoft Office system program, you are prompted to type or paste in the 25-character Product Key, or else it will stop working after 25 days.

The Product Key may be located in one of the following locations:
Sticker on the CD case or other packaging. Certificate of Authenticity. Confirmation e-mail message received from an online purchase.

Open the CD case or packaging that came with Word 2007 when you bought it as physical media, either from an in-store or online retailer. Find a sticker with the 25-character Product Key for Word 2007 or the whole Office suite.

Look for a Certificate of Authenticity in the computer packaging. It includes a small seal or sticker. The certificate will have the 25-character code you need.

Look for a sticker on your computer if you bought it with Office pre-installed. It may be on the back or bottom side and will have your Product Key listed there.

Open your email account that you provided when you bought Microsoft Word 2007 from Microsoft Office Online. When you made the purchase, you were sent a confirmation email with the purchase details and the Product Key you need. Search your email archives until you find the message.

Contact Microsoft if you have lost your Product Key. To do so, run the Product Activation Wizard in Word 2007. Open Word and click the "Microsoft Office Button." Click "Word Options." Select "Resources." Under "Activate Microsoft Office," click "Activate." Begin the wizard to find the Microsoft Support telephone number you need to call. Make sure you have the Word 2007 or Office 2007 CD and your computer serial number available.

Sorry--you are out of luck here. We will not provide software keys to people who want them. If you have an authentic CD with the software on it, you might try contacting Microsoft. I have seen them help before, but they will require the serial number of the actual CD or DVD to prove you have a legitimate copy.

The 25 character key is needed to activate a trial version and it should be purchased from Microsoft first.

There are 4 options:

1.) if the computer came from an OEM (Dell, HP, Toshiba, etc. check on the case for the Authentication sticker which will have the number (on laptops it's on the bottom)

2.) If it is already installed, there is a neat little program called Magic Jellybean Keyfinder which you can run to get the product key (google it)

3.) It is possible (although against Microsoft terms) that a small PC builder left the sticker on the CD case/Package

4.) Buy it.

The Product Key for a Full product may be located or requested in one of the following locations:

• Sticker on the CD case or other packaging.
• Certificate of Authenticity.
• Confirmation e-mail message received from an online purchase.

Certificate of Authenticity or the sticker is on the back of the CD case.

Hi,

Most laptops with the original Microsoft OS has a sticker underneath with the 25 character code. That would be what you need for Win98 assuming that it is the original OS installed in the laptop.

For the new OS (Win XP), the new code would come either with the CD installer or on a sticker.
