Do you need to reinstall MS Word or was it already installed. If it was, I wonder why you need the number now? If it was already installed there is a free and safe utility that will allow you to read the serial number from your system. Download Belarc from this link

This will check all microsoft sotware on your system and reveal the keys. It will also give you a useful system analysis, for example it will tell you if your microsoft security is fully up to date etc. It is well respected, spyware free software.

Alternatively, if you're using Windows XP, you could use system restore to return your computer to a point where you were previously able to use MS Word, then use Belarc and record the number.

If you have reinstalled the software, or you are using a new computer, I'm afraid that you will need to find your CD case or obtain a new number. Or recover the number from your previous computer. Hope this helps....

I am trying to return my tower to factory setting. It keeps asking for a25 character number.

Are you sure you're back to factory settings? That 25 character number sounds like the Certificate of Authentication (COA) key for the Operating System. Look on the side and back of your computer for the COA Sticker. It tells you what Operating System you have and it will have a series of 5 letters and numbers (25 to be exact) that is the key to validate and activate your operating system.

I am trying to setup my microsoft program onto the computer and it is asking for a product number, i put in the product number and it it coming up wrong?

MS installer invariably asks for a product KEY 25 (approx) alphanumeric characters in groups of 5, on a sticker on the cd/dvd case, not the product number
If you are using the product number it will fail, if you have thrown away the sticker for your valid product contact MS, and verify the purchase and they will assist you to register your product.
If you cannot verify proof of purchase, it might be harder.
If the MS program you are installing is a demo version its time limited period may be expired
MS are pretty good about it actually,

I can not find the 25 character Product key that the programs are asking for when I try to install them on my new computer

They would be either printed on a sticker of authenticity on the CD case , the side of your computer or in the operating manual . If you did not get any of these and purchased it from the store you have most likley bought pirated software.

I recently purchased a desk top, it allready has a free trial for microscoft office, however I cannot adequetly access it because it required a Product Key (25 chartacters) how do i obtain this

A product key is a unique combination of 25 numbers and letters. The product key is used during Microsoft software installation to "unlock" or to open the product. If you do not enter the product key when you are prompted during the installation, the product may not open until you enter the product key. The product key is typically located on an orange or yellow sticker on the back of the CD case or the DVD case.

To obtain a new product key for your Office program, contact Microsoft and speak to a customer service representative. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site: (

I am trying to use Microsoft word 2003. The program wants me to enter my Certificate of Authenticity and when I do it comes back invalid. I am typing the 25 digit code on the back of my computer and I...

The number at the back is belongs to the Operating System itself Not for word. If you purchase is bundled check with your reseller If its full version or trial. even if trial reseller should provide the Key. Also you can contact to Microsoft to verify.

Good Luck

25-character product key of Microsoft office home and student 2007

Just to add to Antioch's comment you will be asked by Microsoft to fax through to them confirmation of purchase, and possibly a certificate of authenticity. They will then issue a further product key.

If it was a version supplied by Compaq, then contact them - presuming you registered your purchase they should be able to trace the record and replace your key.

Trying to set up microsoft office works , when adding the 25 characters in the blocks, says "not valild" which these characters are from the sticker ao authencity on the back of the computer.

I know this is simple and probly not the right thing, but try to enter the numbers again and recheck them one by one to make sure a zero is not an o. I have had that problem before. Just look for the numbers that could be letters...etc.

I had an office xp that I was wondering the same thing...then all of a sudden I tried and O instead of a 0. See what I mean?

Microsoft is asking for 25 character product code when opening up word in Vista. Where is this product code number? I checked our disk, nothing like that on the disk.

It should be on a book or disk envelope in the package the disk came in or a sticker on the PC, if it came with it you need to contact tech support of the manufacturer
