How to move adaptec SATA 1420SA card from one PC to another

My motherboard died.
I have another PC ready.
How do I lift the card (with the 4 HDDs in RAID) from my old PC - to my new PC?
What is the correct procedure - so that i don't lose any data? . . . as this is the only copy of this data - there is no other backup.

Man_K, Switching the raid card assemnly shouldnt make you lose any data on the drives.
After you install the setup on your motherboard. Windows should start and attempt to install the motherboard drivers. Before windows starts got to the BIOS and set it to defaults.

So that's the motherboard model number, and it only accepts 2 SATA devices. I will assume there is a RAID card on the machine as well. Being a supermicro, it's almost certainly a mid-range Adaptec card. You'd have to check the card to make sure it accepts it, but it should handle it with no issue.

However, before you go all 3TB disk on it, remember that the rebuild time on disks that size tend to be huge and should you get a second failure in the array during the rebuild you'll lose data. The important here is to format RAID 6, or 1+0 and keep a hot spare so that you can mitigate those risks. Also try to get the same disk from multiple vendors to get different manufacturing lots. Ensure they are all running the same firmware rev.

As long as you have a SATA capable motherboard, you can get whatever sata standard you can find at the best price. If you fit SATA 1 drives to a SATA3 board, they will still run, The reverse is the same. You can only transfer data at the speed of the slowest component.

Can gx270 use SATA internal hard drive ?

1. You can refer to your device motherboard user manual to find it our if the SATA HDD is supported or not.
2. If you dont have motherboard manual, just remove the screws behind your computer and remove the cabinet side cover and look onto the motherboard inside it. If you find SATA slots, then you can use SATA HDDs in your machine.

3. If there is no SATA slots in your motherboard, you can still use a SATA HDD to your system by getting a PCI to SATA convertor card.

I Hope this is helpful to you

Intel DG31PR, How many HHDs can i add?

The board has 4 SATA ports and one IDE port. Therefore, assuming that you also want to connect a CD/DVD drive, you should be able to add another two SATA HDDs. You may need to get a SATA power adapter (splitter) cable, if no no more unused SATA power cables are available.
Also make sure that your power supply is not already "at the limit"...

you might consider yourself buying a SATA card to support your 16mb cache SATA HDD.

Your motherboard's chipset cannot handle these new versions of SATA HDDs.

Hope this helps.

Does the dell dimension 3000 pc have sata data and power cables/connections? I am trying to put in a disk drive with sata.

It does not. You can get PCI SATA Controller cards that work nicely though. Adaptec is always nice, but Promise offers a cheap, decent alternative. If you are just installing one drive you do not need RAID, which will cut your costs considerably.
