Did you tried to change the boot sequence first? seems to me a driver and hardware communication problem. Check your cd drive if some disc was been left.

Clarification questions. I forget to toggle switches.

Did you perform a full format of the hard drive? and fresh reinstallation of OS?

Since boot disc doesn't seems to work. Are you using a boot disc that leads you to a DOS screen? If that works then that could be a hard drive problem or driver problem.

Other possible cause will be a failing RAM card check its integrity. Are you familiar with memtest 88 software? Thermal and dust/dirt problem.

Ok, for memtest 88, it is a software DOS based if I am not mistaken to check the integrity of the memory card. Reason is if your memory card is failing commonly its overall capacity is been lowered say 128Mb if faulty it will suddenly drop to 64MB(based on my experience) on initial start up it only requires a little amount of memory then switching back to Windows environment it will crashed since it needs a huge memory to run the application.

Also the hard drive integrity when some of its storage space is been corrupted or faulty. When recovering it will fill the bad sector or some files will be skip to load. Then on windows environment it will crushed. Or the links and chains on the hard drive is been faulty.

On fresh installation when it will always repeating, I resorted to delete all existing partition and unformat the drive like new then create new partition. I also have it zero fill. Then chains and links are been renewed again. Reminder if you perform this, recovery partition will be deleted.

Also that could be your recovery partition, part of it are corrupted.

Acer Aspire One, ZG5 ~ A disk read error occurred, Press Ctl+Alt+

After searching and reading many doomsday comments about this error message and what it means and what caused it, I found the simple solution with the Acer Aspire One ZG-5 mini-laptop displaying the "A disk read error occured... Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" error message, the probable simple solution is to Press Alt+F10 during reboot and the laptop will go into the Acer eRecovery mode.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
  • It may or may not ask for a password or require creating a password, this password will be required to use eRecovery in the future. If you forget this step, you will need the recovery disks in the future to reformat the system.
  • Also please note that depending upon the options you choose you may lose any data on the computer because it restores the original operating system as the computer came out of the box.
  • Also, because restoring or recovery is a lengthyprocess you will need to plug the computer into the AC power supply.
Follow the instructions as they appear on the screen to restore or recover the operating system.

Also, it is a good idea once you have restored or recovered the operating system to go on the Acer website and download any patches or updates available.

Hope this helps.

I am doing a clean install from the recovery disk, eveything went fine, all the files copied over, but when it rebooted a message window popped up and said "Windows setup cannot configure Windows to run on...

There might be a bios setting that you have too set for the recovery mode. If you can get into the BIOS then check to see if there's a setting for recovery. You can also try at boot up (before the Windows error) to hit Ctrl-F10.

ERecovery error

Acer....gotta love it...
You aren't alone when looking for help with Acer's framework technology.
What you're going to want to do is use the Msconfig utility to work around this problem. To start msconfig click on Start, select Run, type msconfig in the Run text box then click on OK.

Next select the Startup tab when msconfig opens. Look in the list for eRecovery Service and uncheck it. Select Apply and then OK when done. It will pop a message that a restart is require for changes to take effect. Restart the system.

From what I've read, this may or may not completely fix the INT15 Error eRecovery must be terminated error message. If it doesn't, go back into msconfig/startup and look to see if PCMService has been unchecked. If so, recheck it, select apply and OK, then reboot.

This was all the info I could dig up so I'm not 100% sure if the suggestions are guaranteed to work.

Good luck and let us know if it helped
