OK--for a
Hitachi
this set is a little unusual---it uses two of the STK-392-120 CONVERGENCE CHIPS.
Oneor both are bad(usually just one) You need to replace both and anydiscolored resistors around them--all the resistors have locationnumbers and if any are even slightly discolored you need to replacethem and both chips---You can buy a pair of these chips on Ebay forless than 13 dollars plus shipping.
If you remove the back cover (unplug the set first!) look at the
circuit board
on the far right side----about 4 inches wide and about 12 inchesdeep---the chips are on the far right side on the large metal piecewith fins.
If you look and find any of the resistors behind them(on the left side of the metal with fins) discolored---note thelocation number printed on top of the circuit board under them (RK46etc) and I can tell you the exact value of that part--most of theresistors that fail are low value and can be tested just like afuse--It is important to find any bad resistors as if you replace thechips and miss any open resistors the set will still have the sameproblem.
THIS IS A EASY SET TO DO THIS REPAIR ON IF YOU KNOW HOW TO SOLDER---I CAN GIVE YOU INSTRUCTIONS IF YOU NEED THEM.
THISKIND OF REPAIR TAKES ABOUT 1 HOUR--THEN YOU ADJUST THE SET WITH THEORIGINAL REMOTE--set should be good to go without having this troublefor 5-8 years.
