AVIC D1 back light/ touch screen not working

My car was in the shop for some time and needed a jump start. After the car was jump started, the backlighting and touch screen would not work. You can see the diffrent LCD reactions of menue changes but it is not back lit and you can not activate the touch feature, the music plays on the CD.

Thanks for any help I get

i have a similar problem, but the touch screen works fine. I just can't see anything unless sunlight is hitting it just right. I've tried to reset the unit and looking for loose connections, but neither of those proved any help

It's actualy happened again after a repair by panasonic. Both times happend with a jumpstart. It looks like the AVIC D1 is real sensative to power surges.

The report from panasonic on the first problem said it was a blown fuse. They cleaned it up and replaced the fuse. $200 flat fee. yeah its a fuse but no clue on if its propriatary(sp) or not but $200 none the less.

The problem is likely FU1821 located on side B of the main system board. the part number is CEK1257 cost is about $10, it is a fast blow 2A fuse. Replacing this yourself will require some fairly good soldering skill, as this is a miniature surface mount component, it doesn't just plug in to the board. I ordered mine from partsearch.tigerdirect.com ; but there are several sites that offer this proprietary part, I was able to replace it without incident in about 1 hour using a small soldering iron, forceps (to hold the tiny fuse in place), and a desoldering tool.

Some buttons don't work

Pioneer AVIC-D1 Touch Screen Recalibration

If your pioneer AVIC car navigation unit does not register your touches or the wrong button is “pressed”, you need to re-calibrate your screen’s digitizer.

1-Hold the Eject button down until the face of the unit drops all the way
2-Using a pen hold down the reset button (just above the joystick) and the navigation disc eject simultaneously.
3-Release the reset button.
4-Release the dvd eject button next. The display will read “press reset”
5-Push the joystick up two times.
6-Push the joystick down twice.
7-Press the joystick in.
8-The service menu will appear after a short pause. You can navigate the service menu using the joystick.
9-Chose the first menu option and press in on the joystick.
10-Trace the screen with a stylus.
11-"P.ADJ" is the back button
12-Chose the second menu item in order to calibrate the touch screen. Use a stylus again and tap the "+" sign on the screen. (You may have to touch slightly off center if the digitizer is damaged. In which case things will still be off but it will be much better.)

I had the same problem.

I found that resetting the AVIC-D1 with the engine running functioned differently tjhat wirth the engine off. I first tried pressing the reset thit the ignition on and the engine off, but that didn't fix the problem.
I did a reset with the engine running and the parking brake set and the open button started working again.

Good luck.

I AM ASSUMING THAT YOU HAVE A BACKUP CAMERA CONNECTED AND IF SO YOU COULD TRY RESETTING THE UNIT BY EITHER PRESSING THE RECESSED BUTTON ON THE FASCIA OR REMOVING THE POWER FOR A FEW MIN'S OR THE TOUCH PANEL MAY HAVE BECOME OPEN CIRCUIT WHICH WOULD REQUIRE REPLACEMENT
