I was using my Acer 4520 laptop, when it just turned off. It didn't shut down, just turned straight off. When I tried to turn it back on, the power button light, caps/num lights flash, the nothing. When the charger is plegged in there is no charger light.

- The charger and battery work fine (I actually have two of these laptops and tested). If there is no damage to the mainboard/processor, should the laptop work properly after clearing the heatsink fans?

- Thanks for your suggestion. I will try and report.
When there is a sudden drop off like that it may be two reasons....first the charger died and is not putting out the correct voltage to run and charge the laptop, the battery may be wesk and would not last long enough to signal an alarm....or the ventilation grills, ports and van openings are clogged with dirt, dust and debris and you need to get a few cans of compressed air to blow all these openings out to clear up the heatsink fans. If this laptop has been run and has overheated, just realize that there may be irrepairable damage to the processor or mainboard.

- Here is what is troubling me with the incident....the laptop will not power up. Look at your system varefully, is there easy access to the heatsink of the processor? If there is an access door that gives you access to the heatsink, unscrew the heatsink hold-downs and gently lift the heatsink away, clean the old thermal paste off the heatsink and on the head of the processor. Apply new thermal paste, about the size of the head of an eraser and spread it across the surfaces thinly. replace the heatsink and tighten down. There is no way of telling at this point if the mainboard is terminal. All you can do is try the steps and hope that they work. There is one more thing to do, remove the Cmos battery for 30 minutes or longer to make sure everything gets reset. If the laptop powers up, boot into the bios and the time and date will have to be reset before loading anything else. Good luck with it.

Hello I have Acer 4520 AMD athalon 64* X2 Laptop. I was having a problem with my DVD drive, it wont respond to eject button and would just blink. But suddenly yesterday when I tried to bring it out of sleep ,laptop just stopped responding and has been dead ever since. The DVD drive is now working (?). It takes normally 8-9 seconds to turnoff computer by power button, but now it just does it on single press quickly. There are no signs of life on Screen. I've checked Fan n Batteries, they are OK. HDD lights blinks uniformly for few seconds too. Please Help! I have important projects on my Laptop. Thanx
