This is not an unusual problem for washers, but how to eliminate or reduce it would help to know what brand and model. Sometimes it is the balance ring that sits atop the inner drum, or it could be the antivibrate friction pads that are too worn (they are diffierent on each brand), or could be the balance springs at the bottom of the tub assembly ( there are 3 or 4 springs and one could be broke), or could be the balance (suspension) cables that appear in some brands and the cables or pulley wheels are not in line or are worn/broke.
