Re: ge refrigrater repair

You may need a new defrost heater. A part mounted inside the freezer to defrost the coils.

I'm really pissed. Ive had my fridge fixed twice and its still doing the same thing. The freezer is not self defrosting and the fridge part is not getting cold. it was fixed profressionly two months...

Either the defrost control is bad or the heater is bad, Only two things that could be happening, ice building up on the evap. coil needs to be removed by defrosts cycles, not happening. Find a better Tech.

Refrigrater not working

If your refrigerator has a few years on in, it may have a mechanical clock timer defrost switch. They are prone to fail and will stick in the defrost mode.
Also your compressor has a starter device. Sometimes these will fail and requires repair.
If you evaporator coil heater elements go bad, when the refrigerator goes into defrost mode, the coils won't defrost. This will allow frost/ice to build up on the coils and cause it to quit.
There are usually two fans. A condenser fan in the bottom back, that can get dirty blocked and fail.
the other fan is an evaporator fan. It between the cooling compartments inside the refrigerator. If this fan fails it will not move the cool out of the freezer.
The thermostat can fail. It tell the compressor to come on.

There are some basic things to look for, but it is a process of elimination.

Good Luck

There are two more things that can cause this problem the freezer thermistor and the defrost thermostat. The thermistor is a lot more common than the thermostat but both can cause the problem. These two pages will help.

Most likely the fan is hitting some frost inside. Defrost the fridge by unplugging it for 24 hours and see if it helps.

GE Frig model TFX20JRBK ww with icing on freezer

I would suggest fixing it . You only have 2 parts in the defrost system . A timer , and the defrost heater which comes with the bimetal , pt . # WR51X10031 .Most probable , is the defrost heater . You will need to remove the rear inside freezer panel , and defrost the coils with a hair dryer . After defrosting , 2 screws hold each ( 2 ) heater on , ant the defrost thermostat , just clips onto the top of the coils .

Frost free failure on a GE fridge. Removed access panel to freezer section to find evaporator coils crusted in frost. Cannot locate defrost timer and cannot locate any repair manuals online. I'm not...

The defrost timer is electronic and built in to the main control board on the rear of the box.
The defrost heater and defrost thermostat are the most likely culprits on this brand.
They are in the freezer above and below the coil.
They usually come as a set.
