Question about Flat Panel Televisions

1 Answer

Fujitsu PDS4222E-S Hi, I'm an electronics engineer and was hoping to get some advice to repair this set plz...the set turns itself off randomly after a while like it gets too hot and needs to cool down for a bit...the error code as i would call it is that the standby led flashes constantly and if i try to turn it on with the remote control the green led lights up and swtiches back to red and continues to flash again...once i turn the set off from the main on/off switch and turn it back on after a short period then it will come back on again...would really appreciate the help as it seems this is a common fault on these chasis...the set is quite big and heavy and there are heaps of screws to get to the power supply and the 'x' n 'y' boards lol ...Thanking you in advance Regards Jay

Tv is on for a random amount of time, then it shuts off, turns itself back on..does it fot a bit. stops, then does it again. sometimes we can go for hours, sometimes minutes befores it starts turning...

It's the problem of overheating in the power supply board of the TV.on the power supply board of the tv there are few capacitors and IC.any of this ic is got short or may be due to this when you start the TV the current passes from electric outlet to the power supply board of TV.but when the current passes from that weak/faulty part at that time current gets stopped or slow and the board overheats and TV shuts off. this is a common problem faced by many other users too.the possible option to solve this issue is to check the power supply board by a meter and continuity tester and replace the faulty component on the board which is short due to which power supply board is getting overheated.its bit technical job but yes its not at all a costly repair to do or get it done by the technician. for required parts it can be easily available from local electronic hardware shop.
Hoping that the solution will help to solve the problem....

It turns on/off by itself

Hi, this could be a problem with the power supply in the tv, it is common especially on some Samsungs and specific repair kits are available quite cheaply if you have good soldering skills, this can also apply to many other Flat Screen TV's .

Usually this is caused by capacitors that have dried up and split, you can normally tell as the capacitors are bulging on the pcb, you can get them in a kit as I said eBayer's sometimes do them or you can buy them indivually from a good electronics components supplier, make sure you get the correct values for each!! marked on the side of the capacitors in xx/x V, xxx/x uF and 105oC. (the x's represent numbers)

The picture below shows the type of theing that happens, the brown ones are bulging/split on the top whereas the black one is fine.

High Voltages can exist in these sets, never attempt anything while plugged in and
if in doubt do not attempt it yourself and seek the advice of a qualified TV Technician.

There could also be dry solder joints on the panel, usually applies to the power supply as it's mainly these get the hottest.

Here's an example of what dry joints look like.....

It's also worth considering claiming under the warranty for replacement or repair through you dealer if warranty is valid.

Hope this helps (: don't forget the thumbs up if it did :)

T.V. turning on

yes my 26" sharp aquous LCD does the same thing, turns itself off and on at random times without explanation. I sent to authorized service center they replaced the power supply under warranty then it failed within 6 months and neither the repair center nor sharp will do anything about it other than sell me a new powersupply for $425.00. I have contacted a power supply repair center in Texas who has vowed to fix it once and for all. We'll see in the next week if they fix it or not.

Fujitsu plasma turning off

This is most likely caused by the Main Power pcb.

See Fujitsu Service Bulletin on this problem. -see link below

A competent service technician should be able to implement the service bulletin.
