Go to "tiger direct" and purchase a usb to usb interconnect cord. the software they supply will install an ansi and unicode driver so you can use two machines with win xp, win me or win 98. xp and me use the unicode driver while win 98 uses the ansi driver.

Did I have an issue with the Dell Monitor that I set up wrong way and what went wrong with it?

Your Inspiron laptop can output video:
* only to the internal screen
* only to the external screen
* to both internal and external screens

You need to "tell" your laptop to send the video-output to the 2nd or 3rd modes, above.

Usually, hold down the 'FN' ("function") key on the keyboard, and press one of the F1-to-F12 keys -- the one that has the "outline" of a computer-screen. Press the key more than once to "cycle" through the above 3 modes.

Dell 1703fpi

Dell 1703fpi LCD monitor,

http://philadelphia-pa.americanlisted.com/computers/dell-1703fpi-17-lcd-monitor-vgadvi-usb-hub-50-phoenixville_21225579.html

I got that part Dan.........

What I need is what Model Number of Dell Inspiron it is.
This is on the Bottom of the Inspiron laptop.

Why?
Because I do not know if the Dell Inspiron laptop you have, has a DVI port, or a VGA port; for an external monitor......

Generic information while I wait.........

Example of Digital Visual Interface port, and corresponding cable,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface

Example of Video Graphics Array port,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector

Can be on the side, or back of laptop.

Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, connect the matching video cable from the external monitor; to the laptop.
Now turn the laptop on.....

By factory default settings, the display should now show on the external monitor. (Dell 1703fpi)
No?

There are at least 3 display options available;
1) Internal monitor of laptop ONLY
2) Internal monitor of laptop AND external monitor
3) External monitor ONLY

Press, and hold down on the Fn key. (Usually 2nd key from left on bottom row of keyboard)
AT THE SAME time tap once on the Display Toggle-Over key.

Which one is that? Dunno.
Laptop model number was not stated.
For a Dell Inspiron though, it's usually the F8 key.
(F1 through F12 keys at the top of the keyboard)

Hold the Fn key down, and at the same time tap once on the F8 key.
Still no?
Hold the Fn key down again, and tap once more on the F8 key.

IF, F8 is the correct key for Display Toggle-Over, and there is no display on the external Dell 1703fpi; then I suggest you have a problem with the video chipset; on the motherboard.......

Awaiting reply in a Comment.

Regards,
joecoolvette

To resolve this issue, update the BIOS on your Dell Inspiron to revision A13 or later. This BIOS is available on Dell's support Web page.
To work around this issue, change the display setting in your computer BIOS to LCD instead of SIMUL. Also, you may be able to connect an external monitor to the VGA port on the laptop. For information about changing this setting, refer to the documentation included with your computer.

Want to connect my Dell laptop to my ViewSonic monitor-help!

Just connect the VGA 15 pin cable from the monitor to the VGA port on the laptop.
Turn on the monitor then the computer.
Hopefully Windows will find new hardware and ask you to run the multiple display wizard.
If the external display doesn't automatically turn on then you need to hit a keystroke combination. FN+ the key on the top row that has an icon that looks like a picture of a monitor. Usually an F key.
This keystroke combination switches between LCD, external Monitor and both.
When you get video on the external monitor, then you can get into the display control panel and change the resolutions and display modes to your liking!
Good luck!

Have 21 inch monitor dell st2210,mi problem is everythink desapere from the screen and later come back, lock picture is in the center of the monitor al the time i have 1 year waranty i call dell speak to...

Connect the monitor to some different computer, e.g., a laptop, to verify that the monitor is working.
If not, take it back to DELL/STAPLES, and get them to check it out, or to exercise the "warranty" to get it repaired/replaced.

Dell Inspiron 1300 blank monitoe

Hello,

the problem might be from the screen or from the screen inverter.

Connect your laptop to an external monitor and try again.

If there is a display, then its obvious that the problem is from screen or screen inverter of your laptop.

Good luck.

Dell Inspiron 8200 ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 Green Screen Problem

Try connecting an external monitor to the laptop. After your computer is attached to an external monitor, press the <Fn> key and the <F8> (CRT, LCD) key to switch the video image to the display. If the external monitor works, the computer display or video controller may be defective.
