Sounds like a bad battery. Does it also do this when plugged in to the usb port? If so, then you may have a defective Sansa. As a last resort, try resetting the unit:

Remove the 4 screws holding the backplate, disconnect the battery and wait about 10 seconds. Reconnect and reattach the backplate. Don't worry about voiding the warranty, or anything like that. At this point the unit already doesn't work and if this last attempt doesn't work, return it for a replacement or refund.

My sansa mp3 player will not turn on

This happened to me today, which was what brought me here. Also, when I plugged it in to recharge, my computer didn't even recognize it. The SanDisk troubleshooting said to hold up a power switch, which I didn't have, for 20 seconds. So I held the power button down for 20 seconds. (Much longer than the usual amount of time required to turn on). At first I thought it didn't do anything, but then when I pressed the power button again briefly, my SansaClip woke up, was recognized by my computer again, and in every way behaved normally.

Trouble with my sansa

Try this;

Run the recovery tool from the SanDisk website. Make sure you select "format" when prompted.

You need to put the device into "recovery mode" before you run the tool.

- Turn the device off (hold power for 20 seconds)
- Slide the hold switch into "hold" position.
- Press and hold the "record" button while connecting it to your computer. Keep holding the "record" button until you see the "new hardware found" on your computer.

Then run the recovery tool. Select format when prompted.

Fully charged but won't turn on - screen is black

Well seems I solved my own problem..
I waited about 15-20 minutes after another 15sec power button held powerdown,
crossed my fingers, and pressed the power button.
To my relief, the 'SanDisk' logo appeared and shortly after the menu popped up.
I'm just glad this isnt MY mp3.. lol (Stick with iPod, with Apple comes quality).

Hold down the power button for 20 or more seconds; when you release the power button, the Sansa Connect will restart on its own. If it doesn't restart, you did not hold down the power button long enough -- try again.

Make sure there's a battery in the player. This doesn't work when it is plugged into the USB port.
