Hello, I am pulling my hair out, no microphone has ever worked. Sound Blaster 24 Live ! sound card, had all the settings checked is not muted. Tried Logitech, Plantronics microphones. They work on other computers. No microphone detected by the computer when attempting go do a sound check. Tried uninstalling audio devices and restarting to reinstall. My son wants to talk to guys on WOW and I want to record music. Wanted to try just one more time....any ideas ?? thanks so much ! N Decker
I work for Dell and had the same problem.
Take the card out of the PCI slot and reinstall it. Then go to the creative support website and download all the updated drviers for the card. ALSO, and this may sound blindly obviously but the soundblaster has many connections on it make sure you are plugging it into the correct connection and that you have enabled the soundblaster in the systems settings ie- turn the on board sound off.
Hope this works,

This could be due to several reasons -
> Faulty microphone (something could be wrong with the device, or the input jack) - Try using your microphone on a friend's PC. If it is working fine, then proceed to the next line.
> Incorrectly installed sound card - Have you installed the sound card and its drivers correctly? Update your sound card's drivers, and then give it a try with the microphone.
> Go to Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices. Go to Audio tab, and in the Sound Recording section, check whether your sound card is selected. Click on Volume button here, and ensure that Microphone is "Selected". Do the same with the Voice tab too.
