Faulty HT820V receiver sends 4 to 5 Hz signal to woofer electronics causing its relay to chatter and receiver does not work. If cable to woofer is disconnected receiver appears to work OK (but without sound). How do I fix receiver fault? What parts can I transplant from a 2nd receiver stuck on VHS? Thank you in advance for your help.

No, the relay chatter is a symptom of a problem IN receiver #1. A fault in receiver #1 causes relay chatter in electronics in woofer box AND its CD,FM,VHS do not work. (All 5 speaker amps are in woofer box.) W/o 20 wire cable connected from receiver to electronics in woofer box CD, FM,VHS in Receiver #1 appear to work OK but of course no sound. 2nd identical receiver #2 is stuck on VHS and its CD, FM, VHS don't work. But no relay chatter when receiver #2 connected to amps in woofer boxes 1 or 2 and amps in the 2 boxes do work OK. Question: What fault in Receiver #1 is causing relay chatter and CD/FM/VHS malfunction? OR, how can I get receiver #2 unstuck from VHS and its CD, FM and VHS to work?

Both receivers are identical models but have different problems. Please my problem description above. I would like to get either receiver to work.

Ok, so your problem is the relay from your woofer ? and you only have a subwoofer hooked up to it ?

Make sure the woofer is not getting too much bass, this might account for the chatter. and check if your woofer is hooked into the right output. Do you have any other speakers that do not make strange noises when they are hooked up ?

    Hope that helped a bit.

So you have both receivers hooked up and the panasonic one is hooked up to the woofer and is causing the chatter and the malfunction of CD/FM/VHS ?

What kind is your other receiver ?

I would first of all check all your wiring and make sure it is fully intact.

If you want to see if the problem is in your receiver or your speakers/wires try hooking up headphones and see if they get sound, if they do the problem is within your receiver.

Two dump question and than recommendation..
  • First ;During listening FM ,Your " MUTE" switch is "ON" or "OFF" ? if not how about plain STEREO mode ? did you try it ?
  • about the other Modes , i.e ..CD ,DVD etc. ? same problem or it happens only in FM ? the possible solution;
sometimes FM stations do not properly triggers pro-logic circuit and cause such problem and you need to switch to STEREO or A.F.D mode to listen FM (AFM includes sub woofer)..
This is true for FM only and it should not happen in other modes as DVD ,CD,Phone etc..
Hope this helps!..if more help requires pls let me know.

There's possibly some leakage internally.

Do you have a normal (Playback only) CD player on the MD/CD-R input? It's supposed to support a RECORDING device as you can see by the OUT (REC) connections. A recorder would have shielded cables there and maybe the circuitry is such that ungrounded/unshielded output to the recorder allows a leak of the FM, which is developed inside the receiver.

Since you know that FM is leaking why don't you just selct some other idle source before selecting MD/CD-R? Have you also heard, say, the DVD, if it is playing when you select MD/CD-R?

Or skip the analog route entirelzy and run digital cables from your CD player to one of the Digital Inputs, if you have a spare one. They're all functionally the same. I guarantee the FM won't get in that way.

Maybe, there is a problem from the detector of you radio function to the amplifier. Try to check on it first or try resoldering from the detector section
