Question about Sony STR-DG1000 7.1 Channels Receiver

Sony STR-DG1000 HDMI video not displayed

I am using a fairly new STR-DG1000 with two HDMI inputs - BluRay DVD and satellite box. I am sending video to the monitor using the HDMI out port. After several weeks of working beautifully, all of a sudden the video is gone, monitor indicates "No Signal" (but the sound running directly from receiver to speakers is still working fine). Can't find anything wrong - I do know the monitor is handling video directly from an XBOX 360 via component video just fine. Anyone have this sort of problem?

I need to hook up my Kenwood vr-207 to a satellite HD receiver and blue ray player. How do I hook up the component cables. I am not sure where to plug in the "in's" and "outs".

In's always go to Out's.

The VR207 has no component video inputs, just a composite video output so you can use your TV for the receiver's On Screen Display.

Just run your BluRay and Cable box HiDef HDMI, component, s-video, composite video, whatever (in that order of preference) to a matching input on your TV or monitor.

As a rule you should run the best audio from each of your video sources to the VR. There is no compelling reason to ever send good audio or video to a device that has little (or no) use for it.

Unfortunately, the VR207 has no digital audio inputs, so the best it can muster regarding surround is Dolby Pro Logic derived from 2-channel inputs.

BUT, if you have a DVD, BLURAY player or cable Box with 5.1 analog outputs you can let their internal circuitry decode Dolby Digital programming to true 5.1 for input ("DVD/6CH") to the VR207.

This is posted under the Sony STR-DE685 heading, so I assume that's what you have. (If not, your receiver may have other hookup options available.) It might help if you download the manual if you need a copy from Sony's site here. It details all the rear panel connections.

This receiver doesn't have HDMI connections, so you'll need to make your connections using RCA cables It doesn't pay you to get an HD cable box if you're planning on connecting it through the receiver.

Output to the TV is very simple. Use a component video cable to go from the component monitor output on the receiver to the TV's component input. Then switch the TV to that input, turn off its speakers and listen to the sound through the receiver. Only one cable going to the TV that way.

Inputs will need separate audio and video connections since there are no HDMI connectors. Use the component video connection for your DVD player for the best video quality. The DVD/LD input offers those jacks. You can connect your cable box to the VIDEO 2 input using component video connections (if the box has those outputs) or composite video. Then the video and audio from the box will run through the receiver as well.

If you want to get a new HD cable box, you'll need to run a cable from its HDMI output to an input on the TV, and switch the TV to that input to watch the box. You can still run the audio signal through the receiver though. That will add one more cable to your hookup, and you'll have to remember to switch inputs.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using Fixya!

Can not get bluray to get signal to TV, have it all hooked up w/ HDMI cables-worked on old bluray, new one is Panasonic.

you can but not direct, your tv must have scart in or svhs input, or a hdmi input (on component video out), or you can test with cd\dvd out section.

Note is 3 ways to send to tv. (component video),Monitor, or CD\DVD

The component video is controled by receiver selection menu (as normal output), the monitor is sample from 2nd level menu (as receiver next step) and CD|dvd is what is bypass from CD\DVD INput)

Optical carries only 5.1 sound, no video. HDMI carries both video and sound. If your receiver doesn't have HDMI, check your TV for optical output. You can go BluRay to TV via HDMI, then TV to receiver via optical.

If you don't have optical out on your tv, you're going to need either a receiver with HDMI or a BluRay player with component output (blue, green, red).

If your set up is HDR-AVR and TV all you need to do is go HDMI out from HDR to HDMI in(Sat.) of AVR and monitor out HDMI (or composite video) to TV. and select the Sat. input on the AVR. The sound is only comming from the HDR in this case and the composite video or HD video is being switched out to the TV when you select Sat. on your AVR

You need to connect receiver and TV through analog video terminals as above.
Actually you are expecting that receiver will convert DVD player and Xbox analog video input into digital HDMI signal for TV and This is incorrect.
