A common trouble causing distorted sound is a shorted audio output chip. Their is also a coupling cap to the speakers in some sets that changes value damaging th audio output chip that needs replacing also.

Poor signal or poor connection to the cable probably. Could also be a speaker issue or the audio board on the tv is failing.

Most likely just poor signal or poor connection on the cable.
