Did you get Class 66 bobbins? See https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/singer-4522-sewing-machine-parts.aspx?index=19 . Singer sewing machines use a variety of different bobbins.

(I have an older Singer Touch N' Sew. Those bobbins are easy to spot. Newer machines can use Class 15, Class 15J or Class 66 bobbins, https://www.singer.com/sewing-resources/complete-bobbin-guide . Some machines can only use either the plastic or metal bobbins of a particular size. Others can use either metal or plastic bobbins.)

When you wind a bobbin, the thread usually goes through a "feeder" which creates a tiny bit of tension and a lot of direction. Make sure you have it through this. It is usually two circular discs, cupped, and back to back.

We don't know the make/model so can't really address your questions. However, is it one of those machines that load the thread in the bobbin in place (below the needle/feed dogs? Singer made quite a few of those (ie, Touch & Sew) and I believe there are some newer machines that also wind the bobbin in place. There are also computerized machines that pull the thread directly from another spool of thread, usually for embroidery, etc. Might be best to consult an owner's manual (search the internet for: Make + Model + the word "Manual")

I had a Golden Touch 'N Sew many years ago and as the machine aged and parts became worn, step 4 of this bobbin winding diagram started to become a problem and I had to sometimes try several times before the "tabs" would release. If they did not release, the machine "thought" it was still winding the bobbin and would not sew.
