Question about Canon PowerShot SD700 IS Digital ELPH / IXUS 800 Digital Camera
I have a Canon IXY Digital 800 IS which I bought online 6 months ago. Just yesterday I tried to turn it on but all of a sudden it was having a hard time trying to open and give me "lens error, restart camera" error message on the display and after that in a couple of seconds it shuts off. It seems like it is having problem opening the lens automatically as the lens doesnt even open and the zoom lens is stuck halfway in - it doesnt go all the way in ( flush with camera body) I tried restarting the camera several times, even popping out and in the battery but the problem is still the same. I dont know what to do ?
Changing the dial to different settings doesnt make any differences. Is this a big expense to fix this ? Is this covered by the manufacturers warranty ?
TRY THIS! Had the exact same problem/error message. I had purchased a second Li-ion battery a while back and put the new one in as a lark. It fixed the problem. It's a cheap possible fix worth trying.

Find a few Canon repair shops, and describe them your problem, and they should be able to give you rough estimates. I've had estimates for same mechanical problem from $200 to $15.
If you are adventurous (and the manufacturer's warranty is expired), remove all the tiny screws, and see if this is something simple, and you can tell repairman what specific part you need - their estimate will be more accurate that way.
