Re: Garmin Map update 2008

You will need to install the usb driver which should be located on the 2008 disk. When you attach the gps to your computer it should ask where the usb driver is located. If your dvd drive is (D) click browse and go the disk and find usb driver folder. I have purchased the new 2008 disk and had problems with it freezing on loader loading. I then browsed the disk and downloaded and then was able to get to the maps. I did not install it due to it asking what map I want to download. I wanted the whole thing so needless to say I am taking it back to walmart. I hope this helps.

I have a street pilot C330 Garmin - I am trying to update with the latest maps, etc - but I am confused on how to do this. Please help - I am very happy with this Model and mostly because it is user...

Register your Garmin at - from here Garmin guides you to download the webbrowser plugin to communicate with your Garmin StreetPilot C330 over a USB cable.

When your Garmin StreetPilot C330 is connected through your webbrowser - it will show compatible map updates. These can be ordered on DVD or downloaded.

Note that downloading the map update will take a very long time and requires at least 5 Gb of disk space on your PC/Mac. The internet connection needs to be fast and stable enough to complete the huge download. Otherwise its better to order the update through DVD.

2009 map update for garmin c330 street pilot

Perhaps your are using a low speed USB port. I once use the low speed USB and does not work. This unit only works in high speed USB. Hope this will help.

Putting maps on sd memory card

For C330 owners that want to have both Canada and US 2008 map update on their GPS this is what you have to do.

Must have:
1 - Street pilot C330

2 - 512mb SD card
3 - SD card reader of some form (some cameras will suffice)
4 - Garmin 2008 Map Update North America

What to DO:

1 - connect the GPS to the computer
2 - Insert the Map update disk
3 - Install the Lower 48 states, United States
(Reason - the C330 has around 1000mb of memory and the "US 48 states" map uses around 900mb" while Canada uses 400mb...which is why you will need that 512mb SD card later)

4 - Once the GPS is updated with the US map. Browse the Map update disk contents. This can be done with going to "My Computer" right click on your CD/DVD drive and click on "Explore"

5 - Open the folder called "img"

6 - Copy the file called "gmappromU.img" file is around 430mb. (This is the map file for Canada)

7 - Insert your SD card into your card reader and connect it to your computer. A window should pop up. If not you should see it on your "My Computer"

8 - Once you have navigated your way into the SD card directory. Create a folder on the SD card named "garmin" (no caps)

9 - Go into your newly created "garmin" folder right click and paste the "gmappromU.img" file. (This may take upto 20 to 30 mins)

10 - Once the process is complete, Rename the "gmappromU.img" file to --> "gmapsupp.img" (watch for spelling, no caps at all)

11 - Remove the SD card, Turn off your GPS, Insert SD card into GPS.

12 - Turn on GPS, let it load, and there you have it, the FULL North America Map.

When you are searching a state or province (depending where you are located) it will give you an option which map to use, Canada/Alaska or the lower 48 US states. Select your map and you are set to Go.

I am trying to load the 2008 map update to my c330 unit but nothing happens. I get a no active connection error when using the dvd and from mapsouce I get a no memory error when it is supposed to save over...

First, some questions:

A. Is the unit turned on and plugged in via the USB?
B. Is the USB connection active?
C. Have you downloaded the USB drivers to the machine you are using?

You can only load one region on the C330. It will not hold the entire update. That is why you are having problems loading it via Mapsource. There is a way to load the second region onto and SD card for use, though.

Can't update software for StreetPilot C330

I have contacted Garmin several times till I got an acceptable answer. Some of the C330 receivers were sold to car rental agencies and contain software version 2.30. These units cannot be uodated. They are not reconized as a HD letter in "my computer" and mine would not accept a map update.

Unlocking maps

never had this issue, but it's simple enought o fix granted that the patch is on the site, just go to, click on support, then updates/downloads, then click on unit software. Yours sounds like it needs you to click on map software. Just connect you GPS to you computer via usb connection. Your gps should have came with a usb cord to connect from the gps to the computer. If you have windows 2000, xp or higher, it should probably self install itself.
