Fax noise during phone calls

Hi. We purchased a MX310 all-in-one and it works great except that occasionally (not every time) the fax noise goes off when I am talking with someone on the phone. The phone line goes directly into the L jack on the MX310 and the phone is cord is plugged into the jack on the MX310 that has a picture of a phone on it. Does anyone have a solution?

Thanks Mark

Re: Fax noise during phone calls

Call Canon directly - there is a problem with this issue and they have fixes you can download or they will replace the unit at N/C - call their support line and talk to someone

I have a separate fax line for my Canon MX310. It goes into fax mode but noting happens. I also cannot receive faxes.

The only reason to call the phone company is if you're not getting a dial tone on that line. Otherwise, have you shut down the printer and tried to reset it to factory defaults. To do that, follow the instructions below:
  • 1 Switch the Canon MX310 off using the "Power" button, then push the "Stop/Reset" button on the control panel. Hold the button down for about five seconds.
  • 2 Push the "Power" button while holding "Stop/Reset." Hold down both buttons for five seconds.
  • 3 Release "Stop/Reset" while holding down the "Power" button.
  • 4 Push "Stop/Reset" twice while continuing to hold the "Power" button. Release the "Power" button. The power light will turn green.
  • 5 Once the light is steady green, push "Stop/Reset." Wait about three seconds and push it again. Wait three more seconds and push it one final time, for a total of three times. The power light will turn orange.
  • 6 Push the "Power" button, then lift the MX310 cover open.
  • 7 Remove both ink cartridges and wait 10 seconds. Replace the cartridges and close the MX310 cover. Wait 30 seconds.
  • 8 Push the "Power" button. Wait a few seconds to allow the printer to fully power down, then switch the Canon MX310 back on using the "Power" button.
  • Good Luck Mark

My fax won't send-- it says there is no dial tone? I have checked that it's plugged in??

Hi first unplug the fax and plug in a phone handset if you get a dial tone you will know its not the phone Co. fault next the cable that connects the fax to the phone line socket must be the one that came with the fax when new as not all of the cables will work on all fax machine for instance a panafax cable will not work on a brother fax.
If the cable is ok then you are left with a modem fault and its probably time to replace the machine

Canon mx310 fax transmission picks up in the middle of a call with line that has call waiting.

Very probable that the call-waiting feature is interfering with the fax communication. Best to remove the feature if the fax is on-line all the time. Good luck!

There are some good suggestions here. Check out the solution and follow the steps. The reason dsl seems to be being dropped is the noise in teh line, and as far as I can tell this is a very common problem. Try these suggestions out but you may want to just purchase a better fax machine.

Canon MX310 just set up - phone rings like incoming fax

check out the connection some where loose or also check out connecting the external phone line to the printer and whether the same problem occurs or not.

Hi my canon mx310 will not fax any ideas

disconnect all equipments using the phone line (everything)
connect the fax directly to a wall jack (a working one)

Send a one page black and white text fax to 1-888-473-2963

When your fax is received by the Test Fax Service, a return fax will be generated to you within five minutes confirming that fax was received. This verifies that you can both send and receive a fax with your fax machine.

MX310 fax problem

We have the telephone and printer/fax on the same line and, when the printer is turned on, the fax rings when receiving a phone call. The incoming phone line is connected to the "telephone" modular jack.
