Unable to format external Memory

I just inserted a 4gb micro SD card into my NS-DVB4GC and it says it can't format it. Is there an updated software or driver so that it can?

Re: Unable to format external Memory

From what I understand, the player can only support SD cards up to 2GB.

I need to know the maximum GB external micro sd card I can put in a sansa E260 4 GB Mp3 player and a sansa express 1gb mp3 Player.

thank you for choosing

you can use 4GB it is the applicable memory on your mp3.
if you will try to use much higher than 4gb sometimes it is the reason why our player are hanging up.

Cannot format external memory card.

Hi There

# Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from or
# 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
# 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
# 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
# 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
# 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

IRiver X20 not reading SD card

yes this is correct, you can only have the same size memory card as what your iriver was originally. eg when I bought mine it was a 2GB so there for I could only add a 2GB memory card in it giving me a total of 4GB. if you buy a SD card of the same GB you wont have a problem

External memory - sd card recognition on pc??

if it doesn't even appear on windows explorer either the sd card, usb link or iriver is defective. if all else fails try getting a memory card reader. this allows you to store files on the card through the computer and still be able to insert the card as external storage on the iriver x20. the only trouble with that is that its hard to get the card in and out of the iriver

How do I configure external storage?

Had the same problem - but with older Insignia NS-DV2G. Didn't want to buy a new bigger 4GB. Salesman at Best Buy today said I just needed a Macro SC card. Sold me a 2 GB. CAme home - downloaded new tunes, loaded it up in the Card reader and synced. Computer said everything went to the card fine. Turned on the Insignia and got same error as you - "Unable to format external memory". Huh? Thought maybe the memory was too much at 2GB. Had a smaller 256 macro card on hand. Reloaded music on that and stuck that it in Insignia. Same error message. Googled the problem and found your posts. Thought I was doomed. Drove the 20 miles BACK to Best Buy (read a total of 80 miles for two round trips) and two guys couldn't figure it out. Called for a third guy to come over and he turned the dial, pushed the button and all the new songs were there! Just like that. How in the world.............

With macro card inserted:
Scroll to SYSTEM
Click on YES.

At least it worked for me. Good Luck.

4GB micro sd card.

According to what I've read, you can double the original memory, but no more than that, so the max you can have on a Sansa e250 would be 4 GB (2GB internal memory and 2GB external memory). I also read that the micro SD cards holds
music only-no video.
