Problem for Hotpoint VBXR1090D Top Load Washer

My Hotpoint VBXR1070 washer tub will not spin

My Hotpoint VBXR1070 washer tub will not spin. The motor seems fine and spins, but the belt seems loose and has apparently been rubbing on the metal support housing. Is it possible that the belt has stretched out and needs to be replaced?

yes, the rubbing could definately have damaged the belt, so I would begin by replacing the belt first. you may also have a problem with the clutch pulley which sits on top of the motor. if you remove the clutch you must replace the clutch clip as the old one will not hold again. hope this helps.
