This is a print head failure of some type. Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord and lift up the scanner unit. Check for any paper or foreign object. See if you can slide the printhead and check under it. If the printhead will not move easily, do not force it. If the printhead is all the way to the right, you will not be able to move it. Use a flashlight to check for any foreign objects or paper scraps soaked with ink. Remove any foreign stuff that you find.
Hi there maximum time we found it is a the head problem. The print head is what the cartridges sit in inside of the printer. For resolve the problem please follow these.
Open the printer and wait for the carriage to slide over. Some how if its not come then Unplug the printer & Manually slide the carriage. Now Remove the ink cartridges from the print head & Use wet warm cotton swab or use alcohol to thoroughly clean the print head. Repeat this until there is no ink residue coming off on the cotton swab. After finished it make the head dry then fix it back. Now Try to print something now
If that does not work then follow the next step.
Remove the printer data cable & restart the PC & printer. Then fit back the data cable & turn on the printer. Hope that's start working , if no luck then Uninstall the printer driver & restart the PC & Printer both again. Now install the driver of the printer and connect it with PC ,Turn on printer & go for a test print from the printer preference. Thanks & waiting for your reply.
Hi you can try This works with most Brother printers Procedure how to reset the error 46 error (unable to clean). This can be done on every Brother inkjet machine with a numeric keypad.
- Machine off - Switch on the machine while holding down the “menu” button until all the leds are flashing on/off. Now you are in “maintenance” mode. - press 80 - press the “mono start” button several times until you see “purge: xxxx” - press “2783” in order to reset the purge counter. You will see: “purge:0000” - press “99” to exit the maintenance mode
Now you are able to print again, but actually your ink absorber box is now full with ink. Ink flooding can happen if you don’t replace this ink box Also can try.
Reset code. Press menu then*2864 within 2 seconds (maint should be on the display and all the lights should be flashing, if not try again) press 80 then keep pressing black/mono start button until screen displays ‘purge count’ press 2783 to reset purge count press stop/exit key press 99 machine should return to normal
I have the same error message “Check the Troubleshooting and Routine Maintenance Chapter in User's Guide" I called customer service for "BROTHER 1-800-284-4329 USA; 1-877-BROTHER for CANADA. The Tech’s and I performed a series of diagnostic test, via the phone but were unable to solve the problem... Brother seem to believe that I have a defected printer head, Brother referred me to a local authorize service agent for Brother. I do have my User's Guide and there is no additional information that I was able to use to resolve this problem. HOW EVER, I am able to get the machine to print by opening the cover and close it as if I had installed ink, or removed a paper jam “SIMPLY OPEN AND CLOSE THE COVER”. I also vacuumed and blew the insides and the outside buttons of the machine with forced air from my vacuum, after all that I still have the same problem. My solution...buy a new machine mine is 32 months old and I probably have ran 15k or more print, fax, and copy jobs. Some times we need to know when to move on, TIME IS MONEY AND TIME WASTED IS UN-REFUNDABLE. GOOD LUCK TG/Ks
