Dishwasher dishes are not getting cleaned on the top shelf and the bottom one

I have a Kenmore Elite dishwasher(ultra quiet) and it appears that the water is not getting to the top rack, as the bottom dishes are fairly clean, BUT the top dishes are clearly not getting cleaned. There is water droplets on the ceiling of the dishwasher, but the dishes don't seem to be wet (on the top), the bottom of the dishwasher is getting water, but I do not know how much, as the dishes are not as clean as they use to be. I cleaned and removed broken glass from the bottom, and thoroughly cleaned all exposed parts that could be removed. There appears to be nothing stuck in any of the parts, but hard water film, which I removed. The dishwasher is about three years old. Any ideas? Could it be the water inlet valve? Thanks

I don't have that exact model but same problem and it was the chopper assembly it went on me twice first time bought a new one only around $16.00 second time cleaned it fixed it put it back worked fine. Its under the filter screen a little cover one screw holds it in good luck .

I have the same problem and suspect that it is the jar labels that have gone through the washer. Any way to clear these out or clean the thing before I have to spend $200 to fix it?

Same problem here, I bought dishwasher a year ago and it was working perfectly all right but a few days ago I notice that I have food particles on my glasses and dishes. Any idea why?

    Thanks

Same problem. The glasses (or other items) on the top shelf located in the outer edge and corners are the ones that get a gritty residue (easy to see with clear glasses). Water is going everywhere and the glasses did not have this grime when put inside originally.

I placed on a bowl on the top rack and it did not fill with water.  I also noticed that the arm is not rotating for the top dishes.

Basic checks:
is water entering into the machine.
is it hot.
is it being heated during pre-wash
is the soap being dispensed
is the pump running when cycling?
do the arms turn freely?

you mentioned the top and bottom shelves. are there places where the dishes 'are' being cleaned?, or are you meaning that in general they are not being cleaned at all?

most of the above indicators are observable by stopping the wash cycle from time to time in various modes.
to see if water is being pumped at all, put a bowl on the top and bottom shelf, and nothing else. if there is water in it after it cycles then the pump is moving at least some water.
start with these observations and please report back
good luck

Items on top shelf are not getting clean whereas bottom shelf dishes are clean

Hi,
I had this problem, and on mine it was because when I pushed the top shelf in , the little sleeve for the spinning nozzle wasn't fitting over the coupling that supplies water to it. Try checking the alignment when you push in the top shelf.

Hope this Helps,

Dishes on top rack don't get clean

The following suggestions will greatly enhance the ability of your dishwasher to clean all of the dishes thoroughly:

1. Rinse all of the food off of the dishes before you put them in the dishwasher.

2. Run the hot water into the sink until it is as hot as it gets before you start the dishwasher.

3. Do not pack the dishes into the dishwasher, just put in a reasonable number without crowding or stacking them on either shelf.

4. Pull the top shelf all the way out to be sure that the water connection at the rear of the top shelf is connected. Sometimes, this connector comes disconnected preventing the water from entering the top spray assembly.

THese things should make a huge difference.

Good luck with this and please rate my answer. Thanks. Joe

My Kitchenaid dishwasher not cleaning dishes on top shelf

You need to clean the jets on the machine arm with an old toothbrush etc... then clean out the debris filter on the bottom of the tub near the dryer bar. The calcification in the little jet areas causes this problem. This should help.

Is the top sprayer clean and not clogged so that the water can flow through? The top may not be functioning properly.

Top shelf items dirtier after cleaning

After some experience with our own fdw60 with the same problem, we now put all pots and pans on the top rack. Putting them on the bottm appears to stop the clean water rinse reaching the top rack. All washes since have been ok.
