Question about Maytag 24 in. MDBH950AWS Built-in Dishwasher

Blown Motor DW is about 16 months old. Started making some real bad noise. Lasted about a minute and then had a death howl. Called in repair tech who says motor is blown. $399 for repair which includes $125 for the part. I've rebuilt car engines, so can probably replace a DW motor. Any insight on how to replace the motor? is it worth paying 275$ for labor? Just bugs the hell out of me paying $400 bucks for a repair when i can get a new one for $450.

85 monte? Depends on if its in front or behind the alternator. :)

Thanks for the input.. If its that easy, i may give it a shot. The repair tech said 'its a big job'. Being its right there out in the open , i didnt see it as such unless something is pressed on a shaft or special tools required.

Now any recommended place on where to buy the motor?

I haven't changed that particular brand of dishwasher motor, so I cant give a step by step, sorry. I do know the other brands it is optional to get the motor alone or the motor with the pump assembly attached, so you may want to ask about that. Changing this is would consist of an electrical harness, a drain fitting that the hose connects to, and a gasket that keeps the water from leaking from the tub. $225 for labor sounds a little high, at $75 per hour that is still 3 hours. Some models have a tuning fork type thing that keeps vibration noise down, don't know about yours. Changing the water pump on a '85 monte carlo would take longer and be more difficult, if that helps.

Like I said I dont have first hand on this particular brand, but on the others you do need to make sure its aligned right when pressing the seal in or it will leak. The local appliance parts supplier. or maybe order from the manufacturer is the place to get one. Oh and its a 4.3L V6 Monte.
