Question about RCA Scenium HDLP61W151 61 in. HD-Ready Television

1 Answer

Poor screen resolution and unable to get channel guide.

Our RCA Scenium is about 2 years old. About two months ago, we suddenly found that the channel guide was empty - no programs were showing. Then some were on the guide and some were not. We tried to reset the channel guide but nothing worked. Concurrent with this happening, we also have problems with picture clarity. The picture is somewhat fuzzy. It doesn't seem to be the cable as we are getting all the channels but the guide won't load and the picture is not the same bright, clear reception we got before. Any ideas? We've run out of things to try.

Re: Poor screen resolution and unable to get channel...

The channel guide is a service just like closed caption. Rumer has it that it's not going to be around for much longer. The only fix is to unplug set ..wait awhile till memory loss occurs...plug back up and do a setup. Nothing in the TV will cause partial guide. Weak signal could and cause fuzzy picture too. Complain to cable company. But brightness problem is something else.

Probably not. RCA parts for this model are very difficult to find. Even you could find a kit, it will not have enough to repair. A do it yourselfer or TV tech will have a difficult time repairing this. Please shop for a new TV. Thanks for asking and show a few hands of support!

I have an rca 61" dlp tv that is about 4 years

More than likely you have a power board that is failing. Since the TV is so old I doubt it is under warranty still. I estimate it would cost you anywhere between $300-400 to repair that problem so it may be time to switch to a newer LCD TV.

Dark picture on RCA Scenium 61 in DLP

Yes, the lamp will gradually get darker as it nears it's end. The rolling lines sounds more like the set is on a local channel for the cable hook up. If your local area has a channel 3 or 4 live terestrial broadcast simply tune the cable box output to the other one, the same for the tv.
If this is cable/local broadcast issue it will go away in Febuary when the NTSC broadcast ends.

I had the same behavior, but not as a result of power outage. The TV is driven by windows CE software and it goes haywire every now and then. Usually pulling the plug for a few seconds takes care of any problems, but not this time (as you noticed). I had unplugged my ethernet connection on the TV a few weeks ago and thought I'd hook it up again to see if there was a new software release (not likely). I went to the menu and chose "Connections" and then chose "Ethernet Setup" and then chose "Reset All". After I closed the menu the TV rebooted itself (as it said it would). After my TV rebooted I had my analog channels back. There shouldn't be any connection between these two events, but it worked for me. Hopefully it will work for you as well. Good Luck!

RCA SCENIUM trys to start up but wont start

I kind of had the same problem..I had picture..and the display would flash 5 times. Per the manual it said the lamp needed replaced. After reading a post by someone that had the same problem and replaced the lamp, it still didnt fix the problem..I took my set in to the repair shop. Turned out to be the light engine..$1000.00 for the part...$250.00 for labor! The tv was only 15 months old..and not even used on a regualr basis..I maybe had 300 hrs on it. I did not buy the extended warranty (will for my next tv!!!) but after many heated conversations with RCA..they agreed to pay for the part..I got stuck with the labor, atleast that was better than the whole bill. Anyway..starting to act up again..after only 5 months..bottom line..I'll never buy an RCA again!!

"weak signal" on my RCA scenium

Hey! I have the same problem as you. But! this would happen only when I got a power outage. Unplug the TV for a couple of minutesand all was fine. For the last 5 day I have no TV. I have tried everything. All the out on the TV and I still get unusable signal. My rep told me to unplug for 24 Hours. Still didn't work. My menu option work as well and every time I put the TV on, off or if I change the input sound will come on for 2 seconde and stop. If I find the salution I will let you know. Gilles Ottawa
