Dim picture I recently had a blue ghosting problem fixed and i am very happy with that repair. However i didn't notice for a few days that the picture is much dimmer than it used to be. the brightness adjustment is on full brightness but it doesn't help. Anyone know what the problem is?

Re: dim picture

I would check the 160 volt radial lead capaitors in the high voltage circuit for high ESR or change in capacitence.

Ghosting or a 3D image. A yellow and blue ghosting or shadowing image. Looks much like the top picture in the "picture ghosting image" entry. Is this a convergence problem?

Your convergence has failed and needs to be repaired. Once quick test is to goto your convergence menu and see if you can adjust red and blue. If not its has failed and needs to be fixed. You can call in a repair shop or you can get the parts and instructions from and do the repair yourself. Its a fairly easy DIY fix.

Red and blue ghosting,

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Mitsubishi ws48511 ghosting problem

You need to have the convergence output IC's replaced. These are large amplifiers which control where the red, green and blue beams land on the picture. When they fail you will get colored ghosts. This is a very common problem for any projection television. Any reputable tv repair shop can do the repair in your home and the average cost of the repair is between $225 and $325.

From what you say it sounds like the Convergence IC's have failed. Part number 267P150010, STK392-570, replace both IC's. They are on the middle board secured to a large heat sink.
Good Luck, big IRISH.
