This is a bad high voltage power supply. The blinks mean your horizontal deflection circuit has failed. This is not a user repairable item. It requires a service call from a tech. My personal recommendation is to not repair the TV as a 46" CRT RPTV is not worth putting money into. you can buy a new flat TV for less than the repair costs most of the time. However it is still worth talking to a local repair shop. IF they can fix it for less than $200 it would be worth it.

I need to buy a new or used base for my 42 in proscan lcd tv.

Other than going to Thompson who is RCA/GE/Proscan you can Google the model number with base to see what is available.

We own a 1996 52 inch proscan and you turn it on and it turns off right away. Is there anything we can do to fix it?

Its more than likely a capasitor or rectifier probelm on the power supply, Youll have to get it look at by a repair shop unfortunately. Worse case senario it may be the projector thats gone and probably wont be worth fixing but Id be pretty confident its the power supply. You could google "power supply for ----------) Obviously replace the ----- with the make and model of your tv and this will give you a guide as to what the part cost and you can then have this info when you get a quote from a repair shiop and make sure they are not ripping you off with labor charges. Alternitavely buy it and get somebody you know who has electrical/Electronic experience to fit it, Its pretty straight forward.

I have an opportunity to buy a Vizio Model SV420XVT1A television that has cracked screen for $100.00. How do I repair something like this or is it even worth the effort?

My suggestion would be not to buy it since the screen is the most expensive part of the TV and is not repairable unless is replaced. The price for a new screen it might exceed the price of a new TV.

Yes, it is worth repairing. Replacing the F connector is a very simple thing, and as long as nothing was forced into the hole left by the missing F connector, the repair should run about $40.
