Yes, the "click" indicates that there is a hardware problem.

Unless you ship the unit to a commercial (and expensive) Data Recovery Service, who will disassemble the unit, repair it just long enough to copy your files, all your files are gone.

If the unit is still under warranty, the manufacturer will replace the hardware, but won't do anything to try to recover your files.
