We have the same problem. It is annoying. There are times when there is no hum and others when it is really loud. We have tried turning the sound down on the tv and using the volume control on the cable box. That helps a bit, but does not solve the problem. We'll let you know if a new cable box does anything.

I have a 37" Olevia with the same problem - low hum, but no cable box. I am hooked up to tivo, though.

If this is a cable box from Cox you need to hit settings and settings again on your cable remote and fix the audio on the cable box from variable to fixed this should take care of most of your problem.

Low volume on created DVD

Unlike ripping CDs, ripping DVDs poses many challenges for the average user.
Because you need to get audio and video and need to get them synced correctly problems with the final version frequently arise.
One common problem is that the volume is too low.
The solution might seem to be to simply turn up the speakers, but the sound of a low-volume movie cranked up can crackle or distort. Instead, you increase your DVD rip volume by changing it before you begin the rip process.

Increase DVD rip volume with iSofter DVD Rip (see Below).
With this program, a window called "Input Settings" allows you to control the volume before you begin. After the DVD is in the computer, you just use the "Volume" slider to increase the output volume. As of November 2010, the program costs $34.95.
Try Aimersoft DVD Ripper (see Below).
After inserting the disc, you simply click "Load DVD" and wait for it to load
(this could take a few minutes).
The "Settings" button presents a volume slider similar to iSofter's.
Push it to the right to increase the output volume.
As of November 2010, the program costs $35.

The free dvd::rip program offers the most customizable settings for the advanced user
(see Below).
Not only can you increase the output volume with a volume slider, you can also compress the sound as well.
This is useful for movies with both loud and quiet parts (such as action movies). It reduces the volume difference so you don't have to reach for the remote every five minutes.

Compac Presario F700 makes constant humming noise

Sounds like its the fan . The more demand you place on the system makes it run hotter so the fan speed automatically increases to compensate

The humming comes from the speakers and is very low and doesn't increase with the volume. It doesn't really bother much, just during quite times of a movie.

does the hum comes in all input? if yes, check proper earth gounding from wall outlet and if ok check filter capacitor in the power supply circuit. If not in all input, check hook up wire for that input causing the humming noise, could be a bad hook-up wire only. Thanks :)

Background "hum" in R speaker

Yea try plugging it into another wall socket, if it's still humming could be a damaged transformer. or bad capacitor.
