Sort of a long process, but try this, First, unplug the power cable, press the power button. Don't plug the unit in yet. Since you were cleaning the fan, I assumes you had the unit open. Pull out any ram, pressing on the tabs at each end of the ram slot. Take a #2 pencil, and "erase" the contacts, on both sides. This cleans them. Disconnect all your hard drives, Cdroms, USB devices. Just plug in the power, and monitor and fire up the machine. Give it a few min, since it has to redetect all the hardware. IF it goes past post, shut down, and plug in one device at a time. Good luck, let us know what happens.

OK do you want to setup your computer with windows operating system.
Try ; when you see the american megatrend press del or delete do enter the bios setup.
if your in the " bios setup utility" press the " right arrow' of your keyboard to " boot" tab, ant then; down to "boot device priority" then enter. see the 1st,2nd, 3rd boot device, in there select "CD/DVD" boot then press + sign until CD/DVD is in 1st boot. and the press "F10" to save and exit. computer reboot.

If see the " press any key to boot from CD/DVD" (something like that) strike any key and then wait. you are on your way just follow the instruction.

I have a desktop with an amer megatrend bios.I want to get a new bios that works with win 8.1 and needs to have support for PAE,NX.and SSE2

It's best to simply replace the entire Mother Board than try to replace the BIOS. Replacing a Mother Board vs replacing a BIOS is way easier.

Your current BIOS MIGHT work if you can find a flash file for it, but you have to be careful. If the BIOS your flashing isn't in production it's usually only PATCH flash file, to fix a problem with a BIOS, not upgrade it. And if you use the wrong flash file, it will TRASH your BIOS!

The BIOS, which is a chip, is usually micro-soldered to the Mother Board with high precision, by a robotic arm, and not easily removed or duplicated. The exception is if you happen to have a BIOS chip, that can be replaced, in a socket, but this is unusual instead of common.

The best source for BIOS info such as you are looking for is the American Megatrends Website itself at: AMI American Megatrends Inc Aptio (compatible with Windows 8) however their website is for the Mother Board manufacturer so you can't buy the BIOS as a consumer, but through a reseller, AMI Office, Authorized Representatives, etc (AMI American Megatrends Inc How to Buy).

You can however, buy a replacement Mother Board with a BIOS already installed on it (that's the way you usually buy them - with the BIOS pre-installed on the Mother Board) that's PAE, NX, and SSE2 and whatever else you want compatible. A great website to find computer parts and kits, new, refurbished, out of box, etc is the Tiger Direct Website at: TigerDirect com Electronics Tablets Phones Office Supplies Video Games. Just search for BIOS to find your specs, then check the bottom for possible best Mother Board kits to replace the one you have now. Hope this helps. :-)

I turn the power on and my light stays yellow and the fans work but it beeps

The beeps you hear are BIOS Beep Codes and tells you what problem is keeping the computer from booting. We need at a minimum, the computer make & model or the motherboard model #. If you also know what BIOS it uses (Award, AMI (American Megatrends), Phoenix...etc), this was displayed during the boot process when the computer worked if you happen to remember it.
Once you know this we can find the code that tells what the problem is.

How do i open bios in american megatrends

As the computer is booting watch the screen it'll say something akin to
press F10 or DEL to enter setup F2 to enter the boot menu.

It will be the F10, Del and sometimes F12 that you're after.

Be careful to read the instructions for the bios, make absolutely sure you
are confident and correct in changing the settings.

If you're not sure quite what you've done, exit without saving changes.
Then try again.

Computer freezed on american megatrends how do i get out of it?

american megatrends is the producer of the BIOS. Your only hope is to do a hard rest of it: open the pc and remove for 5 minutes the big silver cell battery. If even after that you can't fix it then the motherboard is dead, replace it.
