Question about Lexmark X2550 All-In-One Printer

Printer does not communicate with computer.

I just got this for Christmas and have tried to install it. I can print a test page and I can print something from the scanner itself. However if I try to print a picture from the computer I get a message that the printer does not communicate with the computer. I have tried two different USB cables that worked fine with my previous printer and scanner, and the system shows this is now my default printer so everything seems to be fine. I have used the CD to install the software as directed. I just cannot print from the computer. When I try to print this page from the internet, a page comes up like I am trying to send a fax and asking me to fill in the info but I do not ever want to use this as a fax and do not want to send a fax. It will not print at all. Please help.

    I do always pick the name of my printer but this does not help. I have opened the printers and fax folder and this printer is already selected as the default printer but it still does not work. It keeps saying that it does not communicate with the computer. I can scan directly from the printer and print from that without using the computer at all though so the printer itself is working.

    I tried everything to get it to work and finally gave up. I took it back to the store and traded it in on an HP all in one with the same features I was looking for. I took it home and installed it and had it up and running in 5 minutes with no problem and it prints great. I had never used a Lexmark before and was very frustrated when Lexmark even told me I had to contact the maker of my computer to get the USB driver updated etc before I could even use the printer.
    This was a whole lot easier and less stressful. Thank you very much for your help anyway.

Your problem must be not selecting the right printer...
find your printer in that drop down menu (i.e: in my pc is the 692c) and then accept everything else..Printer does not communicate with computer. - ffe6acd.gif

    well.. when you try to print, and it opens you the fax console, it means that the printer console (the one that is on the pict on my previous post) is set on fax...
    as you can see, in my printing options, i have adobe pdf, 3 printers in network and my personal printer..
    if i click on adobe pdf and then click accept, it will make a PDF out of the file i am trying to print..

    also, when you print your test page, where do you make the order to print that page? from the printer itself or from the pinter and faxes console?

Printer will not communicate with the computer


1. Walk over to the printer and print a test page directly. The procedure for printing a test page will vary from model to model, so you may need to consult the user guide that came with your printer. For most network printers, you can print a test page by navigating the "Information" menu on the control panel and choosing "Print Configuration" from the menu. For many desktop printers, you can print a test page by holding the power button until the page begins to print. If you can print a test page from the printer, but not from the computer, you know there is a communication problem between the printer and the PC.


2. Remove the printer cable from the back of your printer and the back of your computer. After the cable has been removed, carefully put the cable back into place, making sure that the printer cable is tight. If your printer uses a parallel cable, be sure that it is fully seated on the back of the printer and on the computer. If you are using a USB cable for your printer, be sure that the tab is fully seated in the computer, and that the square end of the cable is firmly connected to the printer.


3. Power down the printer, the restart your computer. Click on the "Start" button and choose "Control Panel" from the menu. Double-click the "Printers and Faxes" icon, locate your printer, right-click on it and choose "Properties" from the menu. Click on the "Print Test Page" button to send a test page to your printer.


4. Look at the network card on your network printer to see if there is good communication between the printer and the network. You should see a flashing green light on the network card. If there is no light--or if the light is amber or red--the communication is not happening. To test the network communication, remove the network cable from both the network cable and the network port on the wall, then reseat the cable and check the communication again. If the problem remains, you will need to remove and replace the printer's network card.

Well you definitely have a pc problem and not one of the printer. the printer just prints what it is sent and as you can print the alignment page that takes care of the printer.

You have reinstalled the driver but did you remove the old one first? I bet not. You should download the hp printer removal tool. Run it and after a restart then you can install the driver. Personally i would turn off the auto update feature as hp updates really mess things up.

I reckon after the reinstall the printer will be fine.

Will not print or communicate with computer/vista.


Have you tried re-installing the drivers?Try removing the software you originall installed on the computer,and re-installing them again.Check as well installed printers delete all the additional hps that may be there as well.

Pixma MP780 that will not print


Hi

If you have installed the driver and can print out a test page that means your computer is communicating with your printer.

Try to use wordpad and before you print, hit on ctrl-p then choose the pixma as your default printer. then try to print the document, you can use microsoft word as well for testing.

It seems there is a possibility of a problem with the printer itself, or perhaps the cartridges. You should first self-test the printer. Since we are unsure where the problem exists, we must do eliminative troubleshooting to rule out parts of the printing system. The self-test allows us to rule out software and the cable by testing the hardware by itself. Please note that this is not a "fix," but rather a diagnostic test to determine if your hardware is at fault. Please disconnect and then reconnect the power supply on the printer and make sure it makes a setup noise when the cable is reattached.
Next, try this printer self-test by following the steps given below:
1 Load plain paper.
2 On the printer control panel, press .
3 Press the left or right arrow button until Maintenance is highlighted, and then press OK.
4 Press the left or right arrow button until Print Test Page is highlighted, and then press OK.
5 Press OK again. A test page prints.
The self-test should at least print out a set of either black or color bars, if not both (if you have a printer with both color and black installed simultaneously). Should this test fail, try it again without cartridges installed. If the self-test still fails to take paper in and make sounds like the carrier is moving across the paper, this is a hardware issue, and the printer will require service. If the self-test completes without any cartridges installed, run the self-test again with the color cartridge installed by itself. (If you have both black and color cartridges, after this test, run the test again with just the black cartridge installed.) If you find that either cartridge causes the self-test to fail, please let us know.
If the self-test prints, but has lines or smudges or other print quality issues, let us know. This includes any print quality issues, we need to know if the problems you have with your black or color are based in the printer, or communications with your computer, or the computer's software.
If the self-test prints your test bar(s) clearly, the printer hardware is not at fault. The issue may be a communication problem, or perhaps a software conflict.

Printer will print test page but nothing else


there is a communication failure between the printer and the computer. uninstall and reinstall the printer driver. your problem will be resolved.

Just install your printer to your machine,or just use a network cable to communicate ur printer and your pc.

Will only print test page


SInce the test pages are printing the problem is a software communication issue. Make sure you have the right printer selected in the program you are trying to print from.

Printer not connecting


Make sure you have your printer as the default printer. Next, right click on the icon and go to properties and select "Print Test Page" and that doesn't work then try different cables. Finally, if nothing else works completely remove and re-install printer software. Good luck and God bless.
