Increasing the dvd size to fit the screen

We have the Magnovox TV with DVD build in. The movie is narrow and wide. We cannot make it fit the screen, therefore cannot see the whole movie at one time.

Re: increasing the dvd size to fit the screen

If the DVD is formatted in widescreen, there may be nothing you can do about it other than to purchase a fullscreen formatted copy of the movie.

How can I get full screen image without distortion on tv viewing? I only get 4:3, zoom, full and justified. Full looks stretched horizontally with tv, looks ok with dvd.

Most of the telivision transmissions are comes at an aspect ratio of 4:3. Wide aspect ratio is 16:9. If you try to see a picture with aspect ratio 4:3 to wide 16:9, it will look like stretched. it is not the fault of the tv. Most DVD recording have the aspect ratio of 16:9 [Wide]. This aspect ratio will be displayed correctly when your tv is also set to wide mode. If you select normal mode at this condition, the picture will be displayed elongated. Ok Your Tv has no probelm.

No signal on TV when we go to watch a movie on the DVD player

You may have to select a different input on the tv. iIs there an "input" put on the tv remote? If not, try channel down.

Is there an input select?

I can view channels but cannot view a DVD from the TV/DVD Disney Princess Combo. Only see static on the screen with no sound. I wonder if I need to change the input select to view a movie but cannot find a button on the TV or remote control. I have a 6 button remote which I am sure operates the DVD and another remote with 39 buttons I thought would operate the player as well as the TV. However, so far only the player functions from it. The buttons only have small pictures without words which sometimes leaves some question about purpose. This is a second hand unit. I do not have a manual. It did play movies at first. I think the trouble may have started when I programed cable channels. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Where are the inputs for rca plugs to my magnovox?

I think your set does not support A/V inputs. It is only able to be used as a simple TV on cable or an antenna.

For your DVD player, you can buy a modulator that can convert the A/V to RF. You can then connect it up with a CATV A/B switch so that you can switch between the modulator and the cable or antenna service. Speak with the sales rep about the details for the modulators that he is selling.

I have seen low cost modulators for under $30. Check out places like Radio Shack or Circuit City.

The quality of the DVD player will be very poor when fed to the TV through a low cost demodulator.

How do I set the DVD picture to Full Screen as opposed to Wide Screen?

That is the way the DVD makers intended it to be. The TV cannot be adjusted to change that if it is a widescreen or "letterbox" movie.

Are you trying to play a DVD-ROM? Some sets won't play anything but conventional movies, leaving you to put the disc in a computer to watch it...accordianman

Philips 27PS55S/121 sound level decreases

Yes, the dynamic range on DVD's is enough to cause the high and low passages to be somewhat annoying but, sounds more like a movie theater. This kind of dynamic range showed up first on Beta HiFi and VHS HiFi VCR's because of thier range as well. If there is a feature in your audio menus on your TV such as "audio expansion, SRS, Wide mode, etc." turn it off and let the audio be processed without expansion of any kind as that will amplify your dynamic range alot more. The lock up issue could be something Philips is aware about and if under warranty contact them. Otherwise not much you can do except manke sure the voltage going to the TV is failry stable between 110 volts and 120 volts. Sometimes dramatic drops and or increases can cause lock up or confusion to the microprocessor in the TV.
