Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV250 Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Playback recording My Handy cam will not save the files as an mpeg from the camera. The camera came only with Imagemixer and this is the only way to view what I have taped. This is useless if I want to share the movie with family or friends. How can I download the movie made on the camera so that I can save it to share??????!!!!!!!!!! We are making a movie to share at a birthday this week.

Re: playback recording

You can use ImageMixer to capture and save the file as an mpeg movie, which then can be copied onto a CD or DVD. Look for the capture option in the software. Also check the preferences (click on the tool icon in the upper right corner, 2nd from the end) to set (or at least know) where the file is being saved. It's possible it was saved (if you used capture) but you may not realize it.

How do you switch tape speeds to LP on a Sony Handy cam TRV 240

You can set tape speed SP or LP in record mode only and can not change it in playback mode.
To set tape speed, turn camcorder in camera mode and go to Menu and set SP or LP in record speed option.

For a mistake I deleted some files from my camera Sony Model DCR-SX50E. Can I recover them ?

You may try some recovery software to rescue the files on your recorder, here are some for your option.

Photo Video Music Recovery (for Windows)
Photo Video Music Recovery for Mac

Both programs can also recover video and music files.

Note: Before your files are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the handy cam in case the original files(your recordings) are overwritten.

ImageMixer 3 SE for SD. Can't Create Disc, Save Files to PC

This has to be the shittest software ever! I've edited my clips in the editing mode but can't do anything but save it as a working edit. The file format is useless for anything but this program so all you can do is edit to your hearts content and then edit some more. Complete waste of time. I tried connecting the camera (Canon HF10) and that took away all editing options. Could only burn straight to DVD or upload to computer. For such an expensive camera this is very disappointing.

Uploading video from sony dcr-dvd201

That's one of the inherent disadvantages of using a direct-to-DVD Camcorder.
2 solutions that immediately come to mind are
1. Export the unedited video from imagemixer or whichever proprietary software you're currently using. This is done in the same manner you'd otherwise output video to digital files. Chances are, it'll be under File>Export. Output the video as a quicktime, MPEG, AVI, WMV, or other widely accessible video file system, and it should be easily opened in other software.
2. Use a DVD ripping program, such as Free DVD ripper from GoBuySoftware ( for PC or Mac the Ripper for OS X (, both free, to export to an exchangeable format.
I hope this does the trick! If not, please let me know what specific gear you're using :)

Failed creating file

I had to re-do the project, this time using Standard Quality rather than High Quality, and it completed creating the file(s) and writing the DVD.

How do I play MPEG recordings?

Using Windows Media Player You need Microsoft Windows Media Player Version 9 or higher and Sharp G.726 Audio Codec in order to play MPEG4 files from the Memory Stick on your PC. If you are not currently using Microsoft Windows Media Player Version 9 or higher. Important: The Sharp G.726 Audio Codec needed to play MPEG4 files is no longer signed by Microsoft. If Sharp G.726 Audio Codec is not properly installed on your PC, it will not play MPEG4 Audio. Using DivX® You can also download a free DivX® Player and codec to play your MPEG and other video format files. DivX® for Windows is a free codec built to play every version of DivX content. The DivX codec also plugs into your existing video software so you can view and create high-quality DivX videos at a fraction of the original size. The DivX codec also adds DivX video playback support to most popular media players.
