My ford car radio/CD cannot pick up any FM stations although MW works, do you know what might be the problem? I have taken the radio out to see if there is a lose wire but all looks ok, I have unscrewed...

There is usually a single wire with a big connector that plugs into the back of the stereo near the corner, check to see if it's there. It's for the antenna.

I have a 1999 Cadillac DeVille Concours with an AM/FM/Cassette/CD/RDS Radio. The AM works fine, the FM does not, screen shows digital info(stations like 99.3, etc) but no sound. RDS does not function at...

Hi there,

Well there's lots of possible reasons. The FM receiver portion of the radio is separate from the AM Band receiver, pre-amp, and amplifier sections of the radio. The FM receiver may have simply failed, as well as the CD player portion of the radio. Your car FM needs repair, you need a multimeter to check it or take it to a repair person. Please post further comments for further help or information......

Good Luck!!

Why, when listening to DAB radio in the car (professionally fitted) is some of the speech occassionally repeated ?

Thanks for writing to

Although the DAB signals are less prone to interference, they're currently weaker than FM signals, which can cause problems if you're in a fringe reception area .Please check into this. Moreover DAB radio stations are "compressed", so that lots of stations can be squeezed into the available bandwidth. Because of this compression, some stations on DAB are not in as good a quality and you are getting repetition issues. Thanks for contacting Fixya and please accept the solution if it has helped you.

I have just bought a 1986 mercedes which has the original radio in it. im not sure what make of radio it is, but on the cassette player it says becker pacific electronics it has 4 buttons to put radio...

Becker in the past has worked with two methods: 1) Select station, pull the button out (pull, not yank) and press it back in, or, 2) Tune station, press the button in for 5 sec. Depending on the model, when you switch between am and fm , the same button stores also the station in the alternate band.

2002 monte carlo ss am/fm radio w/cd...all of a sudden (after having car detailed) only one or two fm stations come in...and are somewhat static' longer can receive am plays fine...all...

I would suggest that the antenna is bad. If the detailer sent the car threw a car wash or just by coincidence the connection may have failed at the base of the antenna. Cheapest troubleshooting solution is buy a replacement antenna for the car and just connect it to the radio without installing it. If the reception dosen't get any better then replace the radio and return the antenna. To recieve AM you must ground the outside body/base of the antenna (not the whip part) to a bare metal part of the car (door jamb etc.). Most car antennas have a TINY center conductor somewhat like copper leaf in the antenna cable that increases the possibility of failure.
