Re: harddrive

Does it beep??
try following:
remove all hardware (RAM, Videocard, disconnect all drives and add-on-cards if possible)
if they PC does not beep when you start up you have either a faulty Mainboard or a defective CPU.
if it beeps put in the RAM first. If you hear different beep you know your RAM is ok. then plug in your videocard. if PC does not start you have a faulty videocard --> replace it.
if you see sth on screen you know so far everything is alright. now plug in the other hardware one piece at a time. BUT REMEBER: always shut off the PC while doing that. better: pull the powerplug....

Makes ticking sounds and wont work

The ticking noise is either something touching the fan in the Fan Assembly; or the Harddrive has gone bad.

My thoughts?

There is a green light that comes on and now my computer will not turn on. what do i do?

hello tchief hi, I will give you the three computer parts that you need to check and may sure they are installed and tested properly before powering the computer.
  1. The power Supply, to check this part, you need to know if the fan is blowing. no blowing fan no power. You should have connected this on power outlet or AVR, on motherboard 20/24 pin and 4pin 12 volt connector, (you can test this by unplugging the 20/24 connector then short the green and black wire)
  2. Memory. you should clean the gold terminal, use a pencil erase to clean the gold contact. As you install you should hear a snap sound or just make sure they are connected properly.
  3. Video Card, make sure that this card is connected properly. SNUG AND FIT.
Now power it on Still No success? Do the above several times. Still? If you have Spare memory, try them, (are you sure the memory is good?)

Motherboard won't boot: no noise, no nothing...

Shorting the two leads will work but don't keep the two wires together. They are not ment to stay connected. Consider replacing your cases ATX power switch. Take a look at the link provided for a new switch;

The green LED on the motherboard means the board is in "Stand by mode". This green LED uses 5V DC to light the LED. After replacing your PS back into your system it may function just fine.

Good luck.

Mother board no display

Looks like the lights are on? Fans spin? Sounds like the harddrives spinning? The power supply is bad. has just enough power to light lights, and spin fans, but not enough for the processor. (No beep sounds, because BIOS hasn't done a memory count. It's not going to)

ALL the lights use less than 1 Watt.
EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts.
The harddrive just sitting there spinning, uses about 5 watts.

Processors use 55 Watts to 125 Watts. Depends on the processor.
Not enough power to turn the processor on, the computer won't work. Computer isn't working there isn't anything to turn the monitor on. No Signal.

Mother Board Fan Making too Much Noise

There are 2 main reasons for the CPU fan to run noisily. One is that there is film of dust accumalated on the cooling fins thus not allowing air to circulate and cool the CPU properly. The second is that perhaps the fan needs to be oiled because the sleeve bearing has gone dry.The most common problem for a noisy CPU fan is accumalation of dust. You will have to remove the fan and clean it thoroughly with a soft brush.

Either the new power supply you purchased is not functioning correctly. But, assuming it is now that you are getting some form of power to your PC, it is very likely the motherboard. Whatever fried your old power supply (or it could have just been the power supply itself) most likely fried your motherboard in the process. Probably not the CPU since the MB can't even post.

Computer powers off while booting, green light stays on!

1. check the cpu fan is properly working with normal speed..

2. go to bios setup and restore all settings to default.

3. if windows start and problem comes after some time , then it might be virus. so, go for a virus scan.
