Question about Samsung SyncMaster 930B 19" LCD Flat Panel Monitor

6 Answers

Black screen When i turn my monitor on, there is nothing displayed on the screen. The screen appears to be off, but it is actually on. I've tried checking the display settings, automatic settings, and also checked the plugs and cables and all appear to be in place. The green light is on which lets me know the power is on but the screen shows nothing. Please help!

Monitor is black, even though it is on...

  • lindalf75 Sep 21, 2008

Everytime the computer goes to 'sleep' mode the monitor screen will not power back up (it remains black) even though the green light is on. I've been on line with Firedog techs and they can't seem to solve it either. I have to manually turn off my computer (press the power button) then turn the computer back on to get the monitor to display.

Same problem. Screen goes black, but blue light on power switch indicates the screen is still on. I have to power down the screen and start over. VERY ANNOYING.

the monitor is on, but there is a black screen

  • uscengr02 Jan 05, 2009

Same problem here. Monitor does briefly show a small window that says "Digital/Analog" but then that goes away after about 10 seconds and it is just black. The green power light flashes but I can't get any menu items to display. This is the second time I've had what appears to be the same problem. The last time they swapped it out for a new one. This is the new one and it failed within a couple of months.

  • jbgregg Apr 01, 2009

Turned it on this morning and after a couple seconds it went black. Swapped out with new monitor and everything is ok. Not even 2 years use...pretty sad.

The cold-cathode tubes (four) are used as a backlight, i have same problem and as far as i have investigated, there is problem in one of the cathodetube power-inverter, maybe dryed electrolytecondensator.? It do not help if one tube is disconnected; the other inverters still seems to fail.

OK, I have read these reponse but do not see a fix. My screen was fine until; I woke up and turned it on and it stayed black. I checked all connections, there is a power light on. Diconected and hooked up a regular monitor, working well. Need to know how to determine if it is dead, which I can not imagine as I have had no trouble at all with it. Please advise on how to trouble shoot. halbisenfmt@yahoo.com

Going by your description, it is indeed the backlight, especially since the menu is dim

If you can get into the menu your monitor should be ok. check the cables to the computer.you might have a lose connector on the videocard.wiggle the cable and watch the monitor. if nothing happens you might have a bad videocard. best way to chack monitor: connect it to a known good computer......

Windows 7 - adjust monitor screen??? using a 15" monitor and now have black space around picture.

Control Panel/Appearance and Personalization/Display/Adjust resolution. Try higher resolutions on the list.
If that doesn't do it I would go to Device Manager, and update driver for display adapter. May need to go to the manufacturers website
and Support Tab for drivers.

You can try connecting an external monitor to see if you get a display on the external monitor. If so then you have a problem with Inspiron LCD screen or video circuit on the motherboard. Here is a link to the setup guide which has the location of external VGA connector on the back view:

When a monitor displays "Input not supported", the display resolution is set too high. To resolve this, change the resolution to a supported resolution of the monitor.
In Windows XP
  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display.
  2. On the Settings tab, under Screen resolution, drag the slider to the desired resolution and click Apply.
  3. When prompted to apply the settings, click OK. The screen will turn black for a moment.
  4. Once the screen resolution changes, confirm the change by selecting Yes. A timer will count down for 15 seconds to ensure the change is desired.
Click Yes to confirm the change; click No or do nothing to revert to the previous setting.
In Windows Vista
  1. Press the Start button , select Control Panel, select Appearance and Personalization, select Personalization, and then Display Settings.
  2. Under Resolution, move the slider to the desired resolution and click Apply.

Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX shows a blank screen on boot, but runs perfect on external display

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

When i turn compurte on black screen only

This could be due to a couple of things. If your computer is actually starting up and you get no graphics (actually nothing at all on your monitor) then you could have a bad monitor or a bad video card. If the computer is working at all, the monitor should display something, if just an error message.
My suggestion-try an external monitor (be sure to press the Fn and special function key combo to send the signal to the external monitor).
If that doesn't work (either monitor), then the graphics card could have problems.
If the external monitor works, then you could have a loose connection to the screen or the screen could be bad or perhaps the inverter that runs the screen could be bad. In this case, you'll have to get it fixed.

I would try this monitor with another PC first to verify that it is not PC problem.
Most common failures in the monitors are due to bad caps in the power supply/inverter board, we want to find out first if it is the monitor or the PC problem.
See examples of failed ACER due to bad caps here:

Black Screen

try hooking up an external video source. Check to see if the computer is actually booting up. if the computer boots up, then the LCD invertor or Backlight of the screen is bad, need to be replaced.

If the computer does not boot up after hooking up an external video source, then most likely your motherboard is bad!

need to be replaced.
