XBox 360 not compatible with Motorola WR850G

Can't get xbox 360 to connect to xbox live, the connection test fails at MTU, wired or wireless. My WR850G (not on Microsoft compatible lsit) doesn't allow me to change that, except when using PPPoE, which isn't applicable to my cable provider.

Re: XBox 360 not compatible with Motorola WR850G

Motorola WR850G router may fail to connect to xbox live after update to firmware 6.1.4. I was able to correct the problem. My solution was
Go in xbox >> network config >> IP and use Static option. Set the xbox to an IP in the range allowed by your router configuration. The router IP config range is found in the router config web >> Lan section. Then I set my router config >> Routing >> DMZ IP Address setting to the xbox ip I just assigned to my xbox. Restart router using the restart button on the Basic page of router config. Restart your xbox and attempt to login to xbox live. This solved my problem.

As a side note, on the xbox networking test page, the xbox live status message will allows show they are aware of a problem with xbox live login. This is a lie. For that reason I postponed trying to fix my router problem thinking it was an xbox issue, it is not. Once you finally connect to xbox live you will still notice this incorrect message remains. Re: XBox 360 not compatible with Motorola WR850G

I am surprised that you are having this problem. I own the WR850G and I have no problems connecting to xbox live. I have my router connecting to the dsl modem using pppoe. And the router is set to allow any other devices connecting to the router to use dhcp. Note that I have my xbox 360 using dmz from the router's settings. Even though I had it at one time not using dmz, it was still going on xbox live. Maybe you need to update the firmware in your router. I know mine has the most up to date firmware released.

Starting on page 3-3 of the WR850G user manual, there is a setting for "PPP MTU".
Whether or not this will change the overall MTU of the router is not clear. Apparently the default setting is "0", which I would guess is automatic. I would try changing the setting to 1500 and work your way down from there until xbox live is hopefully satisfied.
Good luck...

Do you have a DMZ on this router. If you turn on the DMZ and set your ip address for the xbox as your DMZ it may/may not work, but it is worth a shot. What that does is open up anything going to your xbox 360 so there should be no firewall between the router and the xbox.

Wr850g cant connect to xbox live

I posted a solution under a different problem, but similar. Basically you will need to pick a static IP for your xbox. Then set that IP address in the router web config >> routing >> DMZ IP address setting. Restart both router and xbox and bingo. Your xbox is now directly connected to your cable modem without the router problems preventing connectivity.

Cannot connect xbox 360 to wireless router

If you use DSL I would also check to make sure you are not being port blocked by your ISP. Some will block you if you exceed bandwidth on a particular port rather than throttling you or shutting you down entirely.

Connecting Wgr614v6 router to xbox 360

This error is related to the update of the xbox360 website or a router problem.
Try disable all encryption and MAC filtering on the router and see if you can connect unprotected.

360 mtu test keeps failing

Access the routers setup page by typing (ip address of the router) on the address bar on IE.

then on basic setup page at the bottom part of the page you will see MTU normally its on auto,
to change the value set it to manual. ask your isp what is their prefferred value for the mtu you can go as high as 1300 to 1500.
