Question about Whirlpool AWM6100 Front Load Washer

Something is under the drum and when it spins it scrapes. How do I get it out?

Something must have fallen through the holes in the drum (maybe a pin or hairclip) and now when it's on its spin cycle, it makes a terrible noise. Am I able to take the front off the machine to get at it? Tried taking the back off but there is no access through that way

My machine also makes an awful squealing noise whilst on the spin cycle. Please help me it is driving me nuts. Could it be a fault with this particular whirlpool front loader??

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be a bra wire that had gone through one of the holes in the drum.I got the pro in and luckily there was a bit visible and he removed it in two minutes. If it had gone all the way through he said that by revolving the drum gently it would more than likely come through one of the holes to be pulled out gently.

Can I safely use my washer if I hear something metal scraping during spin cycle?

You can, but I wouldn't. The outer skin of the drum is made of plastic. If it is a coin, it could dislodge, get caught again in mid spin and punch a hole straight through the plastic.

Get a flashlight and look between the seal and the outer drum when you open the door.

Why is drum rattling?

Typically there are 2 reasons for this. Either, you have something trapped in the drum (Underwire Bra wires are the favorite for getting through the holes on the drum, getting caught near the bottom of the drum and making a horrible rattling scrape), OR your bearings are failing. If it's bearings then typically the noise will be far far louder on spin than on wash and you may have found bits of plastic and grey or greasy residue in your washing. This detritus will be from the grease in the bearings and small scrapings of the outer plastic drum, created as the inner drum, spinning erratically, catches it some of the time. If it's the latter, then sadly it's typically an uneconomical repair. Bearing replacements usually cost around £140, at which point you end up with an old machine, with one good part in it, which is questionable economics! If it is a "sealed drum" (that is to say, the drum cant be dismantled and the 2 halves of the outer drum are chemically bonded together during manufacture), then you are looking at the cost of replacing the entire drum, which usually works out at between 60%-75% of the cos of the machine when you bought it new.

On spin cycle sounds like change or rocks spinning around in drum.

Could be a bad bearing or something loose on the drum that doesn't rattle until you get up to spin speed. Look for something like pins, nails or screws stuck in the holes of the drum, or possibly under the protuberances (fins) inside the drum. Does the sound occur all through the spin cycle or only at top speed?

There seems to be something between the drum and the plastic outer casing of the drum. When the drum spins, there is a scraping noise and the object does seem to move inside the space. It doesn't hinder...

Most seals completely prevent clothing ie a tiny kids sock or other kids clothes. if it's bouncing about in side the exterior drum, something has broken and fallen inside there that shouldn't be.

Mine started with a wobbly spin, and ended up being a main spider gear that holds the wash drum inside the exterior drum perfectly with a watertight seal to a DD motor! A $240 dollar part shipped in saved the machine because the dryer has tons of miles left in it.

I used a video on Youtube to make the repair step by step including putting it back together again!

Dryer drum is scraping against something and making a thumping noise as it spins

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS
Problem 1... Your scraping noise is probably coming from the drum rubbing the door as it rotates, you door seal may need replacement.
Problem 2...Your other problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication, or maybe your drum belt has slipped off of the idler arm pulley.
I will include these two websites for parts and further help:

Hearing a scratching sound while drum is spinning...sounds like something is scraping it?

its one of two things 1. something is stuck under the lip of the drum, like a dime or paperclip. Fell all around the lip of the drum and you should feel it. 2. your Bearing Glides are worn down, they run about $5 each and yours has four of them, you will need to pull it apart to change them, its not to hard to do yourself

Something stuck in drum, spinning cycle loud hammering/clacking sound

hi there,

sounds like you may have something caught between the tumbler and the cabinet. since the drum has holes in it, can you have a look if you can see anything that's come of clothing, like a bra wire. it's usually something bigger.
