Is the password in question a Windows password or no? Because if the answer is YES:
It's my conscientious duty to inform you that you're absolutely by-passing in haste your CERTAIN solution. My referenced detailed checklist covers way beyond "tried the ctrl alt del thing but nothing happens".
For your sake, it would behoove you to reconsider and revisit once again my checklist (your solution). It's your call.
