Notebook with a cracked monitor

Not to sound argumentative, but it's not a useless paperweight yet. You can still connect an external monitor, and toggle over to it.

(Connect a VGA monitor, to the VGA connector on the back of the laptop, turn the VGA monitor on. Hold the Fn key down, tap the key that has the Monitor icon on it)

You can buy a replacement LCD screen online. BE SURE you get the Correct one.
(16:9 ratio. 1920 x 1080 )

To remove the LCD screen:

1.Remove the AC adapter, (Charger), if plugged in.
Remove the Battery. There must be No electrical power source/s!

2.Get the proper tools.
A.I use an X-Acto knife, and Philips head screwdriver.
B.A soft, lint-free cloth to cover the keyboard, and palm rest area. Helps to keep any accidental damage to this/these areas.
C.A multi-compartment container

3.Open the laptop, LCD screen in it's normal user position.

The first thing to remove will be Screw Head Covers.
There are at least 4, if not 6 screws, that hold the Bezel to the Top Cover.
The Bezel is the thumb width frame, that goes around the LCD screen facing you.

Look around the Bezel for the screw covers. They normally will be the same color as the Bezel. Some are hard plastic, some are a rubbery compound.

I use an X-Acto knife, to pop these covers off. Use CAUTION of course, as the knife is very sharp. I have also used a No.2 Jewelers screwdriver, in lieu of the X-Acto knife. Depends on the type of screw cover. (Soft rubbery covers I use the Jewelers screwdriver)

There are usually 4 screws across the top, and 1 in each bottom corner. This varies so look close.
When removing the screw covers be careful. They'll jump right off the table! Put them in the multi-compartment container.

Remove the screws. Put them in the container.
Take your fingers, and work along the inside edge of the Bezel. You are separating the Bezel from the LCD screen, with the inside edge. The Bezel clips into the Top Cover, and will make a Pop, Pop, Pop sound as you go along, and remove it.

After the Bezel has come loose all the way around, you may have to shift it to one side, to clear the cover latch at the top. Lay the Bezel aside.

Looking at the LCD Screen you will see a metal bracket that goes around it, and is screwed to the Top Cover. Remove all the Philips head screws going around the frame.

Carefully lift the LCD screen out of the Top Cover. You of course, are not trying to save the screen, but there are small cables connecting the screen to the body of the laptop.
With the LCD screen up a bit, you can lay it over a little, and have more room to access those connectors.

Designs differ in cable connections. There may only be 1 signal cable, and 1 power cable, and 1 wireless antenna cable, or there may be more.

If you have the new LCD screen, observe the way it's connectors are shaped. Compare them to what you see on the laptop's LCD screen. The connector's are a Male and Female connector. Looking at the new one, you can see where the two connectors come apart. This way you know what to separate.

The connectors are different sizes, so don't worry about marking them. You can of course if you wish.

The metal frame of the old LCD screen needs to come off, so it can be mounted to the new one. There are tiny Philips head screws usually, that are on both sides of the LCD screen. Look close as only certain ones need to come out, to remove the metal frame.

Reverse your steps to install the new LCD screen.

(BE SURE to connect all cables before you reinstall!

There may be an antenna cable that is mounted in the LCD screen area, and comes out of the body of the laptop. This is the Wireless Antenna I referred to above)
