I get to connect briefly to the orange wireless router but have to keep starting the zero configuration utility. I think it might be something to do with the toshiba utility contending with the microsoft wireless utility but don't know how to stop it.

If you have an internet connection using the ethernet cable but not on the wireless and there is an orange light blinking.. Try to reset the router by pressing the reset button located on the back or on the location were you can twist the stand for the router. press it for about 10secs and that will return the router on a factory settings. before u reset the router make sure to acces the configuration for the internet settings of your isp provider. if the orange light still there, try to download the latest firmware of your router on linksys site and that should fix the problem
You may need to turn on XP's wireless zero configuration, and set it to start automatically.
Do this as follows:
Start -> Run
Type in services.msc
Click the OK button, which will bring up the following dialogue.
You may want to maximise the screen. Scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration and select it.
You now have the option to Start the service.
You also need to change the Startup Type from Manual to Automatic Action -> Properties
You can now use XP to manage your wireless connection.
Try resetting the Netgear back to the factory default and then configure the wireless setting.
Press the pinhole RESET button on the back of the Netgear until all the LEDs flash then connect a LAN cable from the computer to the Netgear open a browser and enter the configuration URL IP address http://192.168.0.1
If you can access the configuration page of the router then check the IP configuration. Check WAN and LAN configurations. IP 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 will able u to access configuration page. Username and password hopefully be admin admin.
Try restoring the Belkin back to the factory default by powering up the Belkin and pressing the RESET button on the back of the Belkin for 7 secs. Then connect a LAN cable from the computer to the Belkin, open IE browser and type the configuration IP address and configure the wireless settings ie. SSID, encryption etc. The computer wireless cards will need to be configured with the Belkin wireless settings to allow them to communicate with the Belkin.
if you got an orange light to the router, It means that there's no Internet connection or not working from the router. I might advice you to check the Internet connection from your ISP, then check the configuration of your router or you might needing to reconfigure the router.
What are you using Internet Explorer? Anyway I would try using FireFox or some other browser to see if they can complete the downloads.Then if a different browser works the one you are using is faulty and needs to be reinstalled or use the other one as default.The zero configurator is to help you setup and find your wireless conections your router will also have a wireless configutator then the one that windows comes with make sure you know which one you are using.Go to network connections and internet connections, click, then right click on wireless connection,then properties and you should have a wireless tab check to see if the box that says use windows to configure my wireless conections is checked if you want windows to do it. If neither browser finishes downloads redo wireless setup.But I really think it is the browser.Hope you understand what I am trying to say.
best thing you do is check again the UTP and the RJ 45 jack tip to tip check the color coding of the wire the best coding is from the right brown and white wbrown ,green and white w/blue ,blue and white w/green ,orange and white w/orange then do this to the other side same coding and start to configure it again ....
hope this solution help your problem .. please rate this solution ..... Thanks
