Catastrophic Error when trying to register fingerprint

I have Windows Vista. I downloaded and installed the most recent software of the Digital Persona Manager (2.1 version) from Microsoft's website and restarted the computer normally. After it has been fully installed, it will not let me register my fingerprint using the fingerprint registration wizard. When I try to manually select it, or touch the fingerprint reader to bring up the box to register the fingerprint, it says catastrophic error. How can I fix this? I am unable to use the fingerprint reader without being able to register my fingerprint.

Re: Catastrophic Error when trying to register...

If you turn data execution prevention off (cntrl panel, system, performance steeings buton then the DEP tab) it will work.

It is better to add only the programs (.exe) from the BIN folder of your C:\Program Files\DigitalPersona\bin folders since DEP is a good security measure against many types of attacks.

The single fact that Microsoft keeps that bug around can be seen as "you will never get security with Big Brother". It is really ugly and, as an electronic engineer I think Microsoft Monopoily as somethiung to do with NSA CIA MOSSAD and wars.

I am sorry to say what my most honest intuition tells me :)

Microsoft fingerprint reader and windows 7

Users installing windows 7 on their pcs may have experienced a problem: it seems microsoft fingerprint reader is not compatible with windows 7 so and has been discontinued by microsoft. That means, no driver update. You can go on using your fingerprint reader simply clicking the link below and following the instructions. I used that trick several times and it always worked. <br /><br /><a href=""></a>

Driver plz send it

The official driver can be found on the Microsoft Hardware website
However if you are trying to get the reader to work on Vista or Windows 7, it will not allow you to do this as they deem the reader as a security risk and can bypass the usual security of a typed password.
This can of course be worked around with a lot of work, but I do not advise doing this, however here is the link anyway:

Log on screens are not recognisable by finger print reader

ok.. please update your related drivers firstly.. but the actual trick is to go

Manage add-ons, and find your related add-on for Explorer (DigitalP in my case on my HP Laptop) and ENABLE it..

also right click My computer on your desktop, then click Manage,
then find and load Biomethric Authentication Service, under services.. (DPHost in my case)

i am almost positive in most cases, enabling your digital finger print reader on MANAGE ADD-ONs secction must help..

The red light is off and the reader is dead...

I've been using mine for about a year with no problems, try plugging it into a different USB port. Windows will probably reinstall the drivers and this will reset the fingerprint reader. If it doesn't come back on then, you're probably gonna need a new one. Also, check the system tray icon for the fingerprint reader. Hover your mouse over it. If it says that the reader is connected, chances are that red light just somehow isn't working. You could try taking the whole thing apart and looking at the red light to see if there's anything unusual around there.
