I am trying to connect a new laptop to my home
I am trying to connect a new laptop to my home network. The wireless connection indicates that it is connected to the internet, but i canno get to the internet. I have statically assigned an IP like advised in other help sections, that fixed the "limited or no connectivity" issue but still wont access the internet, is there some security setting on my desktop that i need to fix to allow my laptop access?

Internet explorer... Under the address bar you should see "file, view edit,favorites, tools and help" click on tools, internet options and go to the connections tab. make sure you have nothing in the white box then click on LAN settings. I bet you have "proxy settings" checked. None of the boxes should be checked.
