PS2 My PS2 plays perfectly for about five minutes and then switches itself off or onto standby - can you help?

1, Was there no place to post questions about the PS2? Your pic is suggesting the PS3. This controller is definably not for the PS3.2, I've had one of these controllers for the PS2 though, and think I can help. Try taking all other controllers out, or disabling them, then while holding the connect button, insert the receiver in the controller #1 port on the PS2. It should auto sync to player 1.

The original PS2's had a problem with the laser that read CDs and DVDs, often failing, creating problems with reading DVDs and in rare cases, CDs.

Unfortunately, the class action lawsuit filed against Sony is too old to get yours fixed for free, but there are ways to attempt to fix the laser yourself, if you would rather not send it in to Sony.

try this:
it works for slimline PS2. might work for PS3.
1) turn off PS3
2) unplug PS3 and wait a minute or two before plugging back in.
3) turn on PS3

hmm, annoyingly this is quite a common problem on the early releases of the slimline Ps2 models. The power supply units get to hot and can cause this problem. I'd recommend getting an updated PSU unit which will be available online

I managed to find a local repair man who fixed the problem. He put in a new transformer.

HELLOW I HAD THIS PROBLEM ON MINE WHEN I TOOK THE PS2 IN THEY SAID IT WAS SHORTING OUT - BUT SOMETIMES IT CAN HAPPEN BY THE HEAT - YOUR BEST OPTION IS TO TAKE IT IN FOR A CHECK OUT WHICH SHOULD BE FREE

Well it took me over an hour to figure this one out. Loathingly I loaded the Canon software onto my computer. Then instead of using the card reader in my hard drive I used the USB cable that came with the camera. I downloaded the movie onto my hard drive through the USB cable and PRESTO, it played perfectly on my computer with no problem. Hope that helps.

Problem : Over Heating of your console. try to check the ps2 cooling system. what the FAN/ blower is work?

If not, there is some fuse protection is burn. pls describe your Motherboard types... Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back should you need additional information.

It is best when finished with one game and moving to another game to reset your PS2 console before starting the new game. This way your sure to have fresh uninteruppted memory.

Maybe the TV is old or the disc is scratched
